Primary Function of Position:

The imaging APD team’s goal is to investigate, prototype and test different imaging modalities to enable the surgeon to see better or enhance their visual surgical experience. The Imaging Engineer APD requires a candidate with extensive know how and interest in different imaging modalities to support minimally invasive surgery. The candidate will be required to work closely with the APD Imaging as well as other internal and external collaborators. The ideal candidate will have software, computer programming, and imaging prototyping experience.  The candidate is also expected to be able to review, interpret and summarize imaging literature and its possible utility and trade offs for robotic surgery. This role reports to the Director, APD Imaging.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading in silico and pre-clinical activities of selected imaging modalities, specifically focused on Firefly enhancements
  • Lead the testing of collaborative projects including imaging prototypes and molecules
  • Refine implementations to meet (design, display, speed) requirements
  • Establish and maintain strong, productive relationships and collaborations across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Conduct literature reviews to stay abreast of scientific knowledge in imaging and extract putative promising technologies for surgery
  • Model and champion Intuitive Surgical’s culture and value set in your actions language and results.  Focus on the “vital few” that allows for exceeding customer’s expectation

Skill, Experience, Education & Training:

  • Minimum Education: Advanced degree in a scientific/bioengineering field (M.S., Ph.D)
  • Previous experience designing, implementing, testing and optimizing imaging modalities and their display
  • Comfortable in pre-clinical and clinical envirnments
  • Must be able to work effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to learn quickly and self-educate on different imaging, software and programming methods
  • Strong work-ethic to support aggressive timelines or multiple projects as required
  • Must be able to travel up to 10%
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience
