GPIis seeking a full-time Hydrologic & Hydraulic Engineer for our growing Transportation Group in our Bedford, NH or Portsmouth, NH office. We are looking for an individual with a background in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling of brooks, rivers, coastal waterways, and dams. Familiarity with dams and scour remediation is preferred. At GPI, we handle a wide range of challenging in-house projects. These include assessments of stream relocation, 2D and 3D modeling of rivers for bridge replacement or new bridge projects, scour mitigation, dam removal, replacement, and rehabilitation projects, coastal sea-level rise mitigation projects, as well as projects related to stream crossing standards compliance. Our work is inherently challenging, and it entails close collaboration with environmental, structural, geomorphologist, geotechnical, highway, traffic, and survey engineers to identify and implement the best solutions for each site.

Responsibilities:

  • Computer-aided hydrologic analyses of surface water systems including watersheds, dams, rivers, and lakes for public transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Hydraulic analysis of existing and proposed culverts, bridges, and flood control structures for public transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Design of stormwater conveyance systems, stormwater management facilities, and floodplain compensation analysis.
  • Design and inspection of best management practices for erosion and sediment control.
  • Prepare technical documents including drainage reports, hydrologic and hydraulics reports, and permitting documents with minimal oversight.
  • Prepare construction plans consistent with NHDOT and MaineDOT
  • Planning, scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing the work of staff-level engineers.
  • Assist with quality control of construction plans and design documents generated by other team members to ensure quality objectives are met.
  • Assist with project pursuits (technical proposals, presentations, workhours, etc.)
Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience in planning, design, and plan production for transportation engineering projects
  • Proficiency in hydrology & hydraulic analysis, design of flood control/storm-water management facilities, drainage and erosion control design
  • New Hampshire and Maine PE (or ability to obtain through reciprocity)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, standard CAD platforms such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and stormwater design tools such as StormCAD, HY-8, HEC programs, Pond Pack, and equivalent analysis and design software
  • Able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals (including state specific manuals) to accomplish the design process for assigned projects
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team to meet challenging design and schedule requirements
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience in scour analysis and scour countermeasure design for bridge projects
  • Experience in either or both Bentley Open Roads and AutoCAD is a plus
  • Experience in FEMA studies is a plus
  • Experience in climate resiliency is a plus
  • Experience with dams is a plus
  • Knowledge of NH and ME permitting requirements

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
