The Department of Pathology is seeking a Hospital Morticianto assist with matters pertaining to decedent affairs. This includes duties such as communicating with families following the death of the patient, assisting families with plans for the transition of the deceased out of the hospital, and coordinating arrangements for autopsy. This position is 100% time, Monday - Friday, with rotating weekends. Shifts will rotate between 0730-1600, 0830-1700, and 1130-2000.
Duties to include:
• Coordinate decedent affair functions such assisting with locating and notifying the nearest legal relative of the deceased and completing all appropriate paperwork.
• Under the supervision of the pathologist, assists in the preparation and performance of human postmortem examinations.
• Assures proper storage, retrieval and disposition of autopsy specimens as well as maintaining the teaching tissue bank for educational purposes.
• Conducts routine maintenance and minor repair of laboratory and office instruments and orders reagents and expendable supplies as needed.
• Observes all operating guidelines, standards, policies and procedures as outlined by the: university, hospital, department, laboratory inspection and accreditation agencies, federal and state government.

Required Qualifications:
• Completion of pre-mortuary science coursework or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• State certification as licensed embalmer and funeral director is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in communicating with the public on death, dying and grieving is highly desired.
• Competent use of PC is highly desired.
