Purpose & Scope:
This Health & Safety Lead will lead the H&S systems within any of the three Canton, Ohio Metallus Plants and serve as the local subject matter expert (SME) in H&S systems, regulations and requirements. This position will also provide direction, expertise, and leadership to ensure the Plant meet standards of local, state, federal regulations, and certification programs relating to health & safety (OSHA, et al). This position must be willing to be on the manufacturing floor and have excellent communication skills within all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all necessary compliance systems and related documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal H&S regulations and business standards and certifications, including ISO 45001 conformance.
  • Serve as a business partner while providing leadership, guidance, and subject matter expertise.
  • Partner with our business leaders, as well as functional leaders to develop and align the plant H&S strategy with the overall business strategy.
  • Facilitate our H&S governance processes, which includes routine alignment between corporate and other plant HS leaders.
  • Provide on-the-floor EHS expertise by investigating concerns, identifying EHS risks, teaching others how to identify risks, and facilitating the correction of identified items.
  • Collect, organize, and report EHS-related data including incident investigation information, audit/inspection results, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Improve EHS programs and their implementation including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding, Cranes/Hoists, Fall Prevention/Protection, Powered Industrial Vehicles.
  • Develop and conduct EHS-related training/communications to support compliance and EHS initiatives.
  • Lead and facilitate teams to investigate all H&S significant incidents occurring in the plant using root cause problem solving techniques to determine required ICARs/corrective actions and ensure the completion of the same.
  • Provide direction and leadership to ensure new projects, expansions, or process changes are designed in compliance with H&S requirements and regulations, and the latest in H&S technologies

Preferred Technical Skills:
  • Specific knowledge of/exposure to manufacturing operations preferred
  • Experience implementing and monitoring HS programs
  • Experience tracking, trending, and reporting HS-related data
  • Strong communications, analytical and project management skills
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and other safety regulations
  • Proven competency in root cause problem solving techniques
  • ISO 45001 experience
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications; specifically Excel

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 12 years of experience in a manufacturing or industry health & safety role.
  • Associate's degree in engineering, business, physical sciences or related with 9 years of experience in a manufacturing or industry health & safety role.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, physical sciences or related with 7 years of experience in a manufacturing health & safety role.
  • Master's degree in engineering, business, physical sciences or related with 5 years of experience in a manufacturing health & safety role.
