Responsibilities

Be a "hands on" partner in the delivery of System Safety programming and methods, and Networks EHS initiatives in support of AVANGRID EHS continuous learning and improving cultural process, support continuous emphasis on the Human Organizational Performance (HOP) "no harm, no blame, no shame learning culture", lean in on and proactively engage in collaboration, teaming and team building, and problem-solving with EHS system safety/systems engineering methods as a driver. Be a "go to" partner for system safety/systems engineering with areas such as: P&T, Projects, Electric and Gas Operations and Engineering, by embedding system safety/system engineering processes and methods into all aspects of projects and operational management from conceptual to final design, construction implementation (including specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)), operational use (including human factors/human systems integration), lifecycle/maintenance/reliability support, project "post mortem" reviews, and continuous improvement, and replication on planned and conceptual projects and initiatives. Support, conduct and/or initiate Job Hazard Assessments (JHA), hazard identifications, and risk assessments within operating areas across the AVANGRID Network lines of business and as identified as a benefit to other aspects of the business. Be a collaborative partner with other AVANGRID safety professionals, management, and union representatives, as requested and/or assigned. Additional assignments may include support on scheduled internal facility-based compliance inspections, external 3rd Party audits (semi-annual and annual), Iberdrola H&S Global Assessments, Hazardous Materials Management (HAZMAT) and "chemical sweep" facility inspections, field-based system safety assessments, etc. Be available to travel up to 40% within the designated operating area (domestic) and as requested/assigned in support of AVANGRID EH&S initiatives and training, or as requested and/or assigned. Available for emergency restoration assignments (Storm events) performing duties related to safety, as assigned (new storm roles may be assigned as deemed necessary). Willingness to be a subject matter expert for System Safety/Systems Engineering methodology across Networks business areas, including assigned learning improvement courses/course work, self-directed learning opportunities, and a willingness to expand knowledge base in overall EHS methods, technologies, and programming. Ensure effective, collaborative and consistent use of hazard and risk identification, assessment methods, methodology tools, and risk reduction practices by Networks business areas: Electric and Gas Operations, Engineering and Projects groups, Process &Technology (P&T), Transmission & Distribution (T&D) etc., including system safety tools such as, but not limited to: Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHL/PHA), System Hazard Analyses (SHA/SSHA), Risk Reduction Plans (RRPs), risk matrices and risk profile development, risk management planning implementation and follow-through validation and verification (V&V) of risk reduction mitigations/controls and actions, System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (FMEA),Requirements Hazard Analyses (RHA), and other in-depth system safety and systems engineering tools, methods, and analyses.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience preferred in engineering disciplines including but not limited to: Systems Engineering, System Safety/Prevention Through Design (also called Safety by Design), or Associates Degree with a minimum of 10+ years relevant experience preferred in Systems Engineering, System Safety/Prevention Through Design (also called Safety by Design), and Minimum of 5 years' experience in the project oversight/project management, electric and/or gas industry, and/or renewables industry, Gas or Electrical Engineering, and Certifications/licenses including but not limited to P.E., PMP or equivalent, and Additional certifications could include COSS, CUSP, CSP, ASP, and/or CIH, CHMM, but not required. Median to advanced knowledge, understanding and use of environmental, health and safety regulations, standards and other industry requirements, including but not limited to: MIL-STD-882, ASTM F1166/MIL-STD-1472, NEC, NESC, NFPA, USEPA, OSHA.; engineering and engineering principals including systems engineering, project management and/or project lead experience, logistics, business management. Project development, management and negotiation skills including good working knowledge of development and management of scopes of work, scheduling, level of effort (LOE) resource loading and project to completion methods. Ability to work multiple assignments (projects, work tasks, etc.) simultaneously, efficiently, and completion on time of high-quality deliverables with minimal oversight. Proven self-starter and self-directed with minimal oversight working projects and task as assigned, and development of own projects through collaborative relationship building with business areas. Proven field experience and knowledge of safe work and business practices and methods. Proven proficiency in problem solving, resolution facilitation, and collaborative team building. Proven excellent verbal communications (articulation of ideas and problem statements) and collaborative team building skills. Proven writing skills (including technical writing is preferred). Proven working proficiency in computer use and skills, good and efficient working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required); and Visio, ACCESS, Power Suite applications (PowerApps, PowerBI, Power Automate, Dataverse, etc.), Project, ProjectWise preferred. Proven ability to "lean in" and proactively learn and improve skills development and overcome difficulties, and problem-solve, to find common ground solutions without extensive support by management. Actively participate and support EHS efforts across business areas as a subject matter expert on projects and as a team member on established project teams, EHS Committees, and support to the EHS Strategic Board as requested. Understand and be an effective support and participant in AVANGRID internal and 3rd party audits and inspections (example: ISO45001:2018, Global Assessment, voluntary internal compliance audits) and a good working understanding of ISO Management Systems (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001 preferred). Promote organizational resilience by ensuring safe work practices remain an active part of the "Every Day Better" (EDB) work environment and within the learning and improving culture at AVANGRID. Travel throughout the Networks service area to support project work, EHS initiatives, and special assignments, including but not limited to storm response and support, as assigned. Current storm assignments may be altered based on EHS and company needs.

Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties. This is applicable to employees that will work in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York within AVANGRD Network and Corporate functions.
