Cornell College is accepting applications for a full-time Grant Writer. This position has a primary responsibility for cultivating and soliciting selected corporate, governmental, and private foundations as directed by the Provost and members of the Executive Team.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Identify, evaluate, cultivate, and solicit major philanthropic commitments with highly competitive proposals to support the mission and strategic goals of Cornell College. Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions.
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead the preparation of highly-competitive proposals for major grants to government entities (e.g., NSF, NIH, US DOE, FEMA) to support the mission and strategic goals of Cornell College. Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions.
  • Maintain contact with corporate and foundation representatives from the organizations that have supported the College in the past, or may support the College in the future.
  • Work with the Advancement office to coordinate and maintain high-quality cultivation and stewardship processes for active corporate and foundation donors.
  • Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships and maintain eligibility for future awards by writing and submitting all required reports for grants and awards and maintaining detailed records of prospecting and solicitation activities.
  • Coordinate with the Grants and Compliance Manager and Business and Enterprise Services as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3-5 years in project management and grant writing.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to manage large and complex projects in a college setting.
  • Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing, including budget development for philanthropic, foundation, and federally-funded grants.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve goals.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments and awards from corporations, foundations, and governmental entities.
