Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a General Manager for a mid-size fixed route division. This is a critical level management position within MV, and the primary job function is to manage and supervise a revenue contract. He/she must have experience in Safety, Financial, P&L Management, Contractual, and Union and Customer/Client Relations as well meeting and exceeding Customer/Client satisfaction levels. He/she will control the daily operation of our transportation contract, in compliance with the policies of the contracting agency and in conformance with company procedures.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Effectively manage customer relations through both direct contact and outreach programs.
  • Achieve planned financial results for assigned division.
  • Responsible for divisional P&L Management oversight
  • Create and present location(s) annual budget
  • Responsible for invoicing and other reporting requirements of the contract and/or Company and Client.
  • Must be able to meet/exceed client expectations for service delivery and customer satisfaction levels.
  • Effectively manage customer relations through both direct contact and outreach programs.
  • Identify, select, train and mentor location staff.
  • Effectively and frequently communicate with location staff and support team members.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance plan and ensures fleet availability to meet service requirements.
  • Oversee safety and training programs, plans and processes to ensure compliance with company, contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain client contact routinely to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Develop/establish and oversee any subcontractors and non-dedicated service providers ensuring operational effectiveness and compliance with any applicable contractual and performance standards.
  • Conduct periodic departmental audits.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly review of key operational metrics.
  • Ensure location financial metrics are managed continuously, exceptions are reported, and action plans are developed to ensure the location meets it financial, safety and operational expectations.
  • Implement, promote and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Interact with bridges committee to effectuate positive changes to policies, procedures and programs.
  • Participate in location(s) labor and employee relations activities.
  • Provide insight and information to support location(s) contract renewals.
  • Meet and/or exceed corporate safety standards.
  • Meet and/or exceed client expectations for service delivery.
Talent Requirements:

Experience
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years management experience in regularly scheduled fixed route transit operations in a general manager role.
  • Must have at least seven (7) years' experience in fixed route industry, with shuttle bus experience a plus.
  • MS Office, strong analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and high degree of multi-tasking skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required and master's degree a plus.
  • Management experience required.
  • Must have labor/union(s) negations/expenses expertise.
  • Must have a full understanding of dispatch, scheduling, driver recruitment, and safety DOT and FTA compliance
  • The ideal candidate will have experience operating 30+ vehicles for fixed route services comprised of 32 ft. to 60 ft. buses.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience mitigating operational issues using a CAD/AVL/Dispatch system.
  • Must have experience with budgeting, forecasting, and direct oversight/management of regions P&L statements.
  • Additional duties/responsibilities based upon individual contract requirements.

  • Fixed Route operations in a multi-location environment.
  • Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Budgeting, Contract Administration, Management Development, Client Management, and Public Relations.
