Job Description

Our Wheat Ridge, CO laboratory is looking for aTeam Leadto join theirGeneral Chemistryteam! The Team Leadis to oversee the daily production of a team of technicians and analysts in the laboratory, under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Manager. This position will lead by example and ensure the work being done by their team is completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner and is performed in compliance with SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). They are responsible for giving guidance to current employees as well as helping train new analysts and technicians.

Job Functions

  • Coordinate workflow through the department to ensure turnaround times are met
  • Work with the Department Supervisor to manage staff and instrumentation resources to maximize sample throughput and ensure production targets are met
  • Lead by example when processing samples to ensure that the team follows the lab's SOPs
  • Use LIMS to ensure that samples are processed appropriately and update the samples' status in LIMS as required
  • Apply technical judgment to determine potential problems for samples processed by yourself or members of the team
  • Assist with preparation of spiking solutions, surrogate solutions, and other special formulation solutions
  • Help implement best practices in the laboratory to maximize operational efficiency and maintain data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Demonstrate good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example
  • Manage people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively when required
  • Ensure staffing levels are appropriate for sample volumes and that staff are properly trained to perform their assigned duties
  • Work with the Departmental Supervisor to oversee hiring and training competent laboratory personnel. Assist with the training of new analysts to become productive members of the team
  • Ensure the lab's operating supplies inventory is appropriate for current workloads
  • Appropriately follow safety requirements for the work that is done and ensure that your team members are also following these requirements
  • Immediately address safety problems as they arise in the lab (i.e. hood use, safety glasses, methylene chloride handling) to minimize exposure and maximize safe practices
  • Actively promote a strong culture of safe laboratory practices and the maintenance of a safe working environment
  • Keep supervisory and management teams informed of any potential problems. Provide information to supervisory and managerial staff as appropriate on instrumentation, production, and staff issues
  • Performs other duties as required


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry discipline and 4+ years of years' relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience (Required)
  • Advanced English language skills
  • Knowledge of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications related to the department
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a requirement of this position
  • Must have a solid understanding of process and workflow
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Exhibits high levels of energy and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrates upmost level of integrity in all instances and shows respect towards others and towards company principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills which include the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with LIMS preferred
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on an occasional basis
