Walker & Dunlop's Ignite Summer Internship Program provides a dynamic environment for students to learn aspects of the commercial real estate finance industry. Each year, W&D invites a distinguished group of interns to participate in an eight-week training and mentoring program to help build their skills and learn about the organization. Interns will play supporting and individual contributor roles and have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our business through hands-on training.

What you will be doing:

We offer internships in several of our departments including many of our Production departments such as FHA Finance, Multifamily Finance,WD Investment Partners, Investment Sales, Capital Markets as well as Proprietary Capital, Asset Management, Servicing, Accounting, IT and Marketing. Responsibilities vary by department but are likely to include:

Multifamily Finance

  • Provide initial loan sizings to the production team using property financials and Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac excel models.
  • Compose narrative packages for formal submission to the Agencies as well as internal credit teams.
  • Track multifamily industry trends to provide analysis on attractive markets and opportunities.
  • Perform a mock sales pitch to show an understanding of the multifamily industry and the role Walker & Dunlop plays in it.


Capital Markets
  • Reviewing/preparing cash flow models using Excel and calculating investment returns
  • Reviewing/preparing rent rolls, historical operating statements and other schedules supporting cash flow models and cost budgets
  • Review of leases and other property documents to determine the underlying stability of a property's cash flow
  • Understanding the research that goes into a transaction, such as rent and sale comparison surveys, proposed and under construction developments, and other supply and demand drivers
  • Assist in the writing, preparing, and assembling Investment Memoranda


FHA Finance
  • Assist in reviewing third party reports such as appraisals, market studies, engineering reports as it relates to sizing new loan opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing pitch books for client and FHA meetings.
  • Maintain deal and client information in Salesforce
  • Participate in weekly pipeline and production meetings.
  • Prepare loan quote sizers and necessary due diligence information for each property loan request received
  • Maintain Salesforce entries for all active deals at least once per week


WDIP
  • Underwriting of commercial real estate transactions
  • Analyzing property financial statements
  • Market research
  • Management of Salesforce database
  • Complete other corporate projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Asset Management
  • Complete training and develop a basic understanding of the quarterly financial analysis process. Conduct quarterly financial analysis for multifamily loans in the portfolio (e.g., collect financial data, analyze financial statements, summarize and present findings, along with proposed adjustments/solutions).
  • Complete training and develop a basic understanding of the Replacement Reserve process. Make recommendations to Assistant Vice President for applicable Replacement Reserve qualifying items and determine exceptions as appropriate.
  • Assist in the creation of routine and ad hoc portfolio reports through various systems and programs.


Marketing
  • Write and/or edit of press releases, product materials, and other related collateral to ensure consistency with the company's brand, goals, and key messaging.
  • Create content for the company's intranet and corporate website.
  • Write and edit internal communications.
  • Execute interactive and social media campaigns
  • Help measure and analyze the results of marketing and communications programs, including social media and website analytics
  • Make recommendations for improvement based on analyses


Servicing - Insurance
  • Sourcing third party reports
  • Updating production and servicing systems
  • Assisting in Insurance Department projects
  • Processing Marshall & Swift Replacement Cost Calculations
  • Contacting insurance agents to obtain documentation needed to meet insurance compliance


Information Technology
  • Work with the Network Engineering and Systems Administration teams to organize and maintain IT Network resources
  • Support the IT team in maintaining hardware, software, and integration with other systems
  • Lend IT support in areas such as Cisco Networking, Wi-Fi 6 deployments and Data Center management
  • Assist with Network deployment

The education and experience we're looking for:
  • Must be enrolled full-time and pursuing a bachelor's degree in an undergraduate program at an accredited university
  • Must be entering your Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Ability to provide a copy of your college transcripts upon request
  • Relevant work experience a plus
