SUMMARY:

Monitor the fitness spaces in the Weinstein Center for Recreation to ensure cleanliness, safety, and supervision of the facility and its members. Assist with daily operations of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circulates during shift and maintain a visible presence in the facility, with a focus on monitoring the upstairs and downstairs fitness spaces.
  • Assists members with questions on how to use equipment properly.
  • Provides safety assistance in the weight room (spotting) as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of fitness equipment (ensure members re-rack weights, clean equipment, organize multipurpose rooms and stretching spaces, etc.).
  • Accurately explains policies & procedures related to group exercise, personal training, and fitness special events.
  • Insures all facility supplies are maintained (paper towels, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, cleaning spray bottles). Work with On-duty Facility Supervisor to access supplies.
  • Enforces policies and procedures, and provide customer service by answering any questions members may have while on the floor.
  • Assists with any set up/break down or special projects as assigned
  • Collects towels from all towels bins, locker rooms, and sheets from the massage room
  • Washes, dries, and folds towels to maintain inventory on racks
  • Reports maintenance and other repair needs to the Manager-Equipment & Facilities, Manager-Fitness & Facilities, and/or On-duty Facility Manager
  • Serves as a first responder in the event of an emergency in the Weinstein Center.
  • Attends and participates in departmental employee training programs.
  • Advocates for awareness, understanding and the diversity and inclusion of all people in University Recreation facilities, programs and communications while providing a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in University Recreation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to read, interpret and enforce policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at University of Richmond
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Some High School
  • Previous experience in a recreation facility preferred
WORK HOURS:
  • Part-time, temporary, non-exempt position
  • Scheduled as needed Monday-Sunday 6:00 a.m. - Midnight; less than 1,000 hours per year
SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 1 (Rate starting at $15.00 per hour)
