Starting Rate: Band 3 - $20.24 - $25.29

Position Summary:

The Financial Aid Specialist 2 provides extensive federal and institutional financial aid services to students, families, and the community on a district-wide basis. Performs student need analysis, federal verification, financial aid counseling and facilitates problem solving related to application systems and student portals. Delivers general and targeted financial aid sessions. Interact with specific outside agencies to facilitate the student eligibility process and they are accountable for ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Describes the different sources of aid related to the different programs of study that the College offers. Explains the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process, completion, and submission. Takes lead role for various projects and office tasks. Provides guidance and mentorship for other entry-level positions in the office.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts needs analysis and federal verification of student and parent application data in compliance with Title IV, federal criteria to determine eligibility of student applicants
  • Develops and presents effective outreach and recruitment programs concerning available student financial aid programs and services; prepares and updates related outreach and application materials
  • Monitors and answers student inquiries via media platforms and the college's online services. Responds via email, phone and live chat to the community's questions and inquiries
  • Assist students in the navigation of federal sites and student portals, including NSLDS, studentaid.gov, MyPima, CampusLogic - Student Forms and Scholarship Universe
  • Provides guidance to faculty, staff, students, and the public about Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other student financial aid application opportunities, and eligibility requirements
  • Collaborates with internal departments to ensure proper applicability of federal and state regulation, data integrity and staff development
  • Assists department leadership with special tasks for the accurate processing of aid
  • Coordinates and organizes multiple complex projects; analyzes problems and determines the appropriate course of action with direction from supervisor
  • Serves as a program resource regarding student financial aid objectives, goals, and procedures
  • Researches, analyzes, and summarizes data and prepares a variety of statistical reports
  • Serves as a resource for students in completing various financial aid forms; helps students stay in compliance with college policies and procedures; and maintains confidential student records in compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Mentors entry-level employees for the department
  • Assist in regulation/policy interpretation and data analysis activities that drive continuous improvement
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor

Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate degree in Business, Administration or a closely related field of study
  • Three to five years of related experience
  • Must be able to meet federal accessibility standards to access and update federal databases; cannot be in loan default or overpayment

  • An equivalent combination of certification, education, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field of study
  • National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Certification
