POSITION SUMMARY:

New York Film Academy is looking for qualified, energetic instructors to teach in our Kids and High School Summer programs. We are looking for teachers skilled in filmmaking techniques with various backgrounds. Dates of the summer programs are June 28th - August 13th. Schedules will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

  • Deliver instruction in accordance with the learning objectives set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories and techniques.
  • Provide one-on-one consultations with students, if and when necessary.
  • Develop & manage course syllabus materials & lesson plans.
  • Facilitate peer assessment and encourage discussion & constructive criticism in class.
  • Assess student work, including but not limited to, assigning projects, papers and exercises.
  • Submit attendance & grades promptly to the Director of Youth Programs.
  • Inform the Director of Youth Programs if incidents occur in class which cause an unsafe learning environment for students or faculty.
  • Adhere to institution-wide policies & procedures and follow the correct protocol with respect to disciplining students.
  • Attend & participate in faculty meetings and/or departmental curricula meetings, if requested by the Department Chair.
  • Prep and organize gear for class; can include, but is not limited to, film and digital cameras, lights and various stands.
  • Participate in day-long production workshops on the backlot as a supervising instructor.
  • Guide students through hands-on classes, handling the equipment doing minor lifting and shifting of gear.
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Professional experience in their respective department with a passion for storytelling and problem solving
  • Fun and energetic attitude that translates well to middle and high school students
  • Ability to adjust teaching methods and styles to fit the needs of each student and class as a whole
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple class tracks per day
  • Broad & in-depth knowledge of the subject area or discipline being taught
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multitask and think on their feet
  • Computer skills in a Microsoft Office environment, google docs, gmail and google calendar
  • Ethical/Honest - evidence of the practice of a high level confidentiality
  • Ability to receive and give feedback with coworkers while prioritizing students well being
  • Collaborative willing to work with fellow instructors on any required departmental work, such as curriculum development and planning

In the absence of an undergraduate or graduate degree, the instructors body of work, relevant experience, teaching experience and training in their specified field will be evaluated & documented in a formal degree-level rubric
