PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY:

SHIELD Illinois is a screening testing program and infrastructure that deploys the University of Illinois' innovative saliva test across the state. We save lives by curbing the spread of COVID-19, while reducing productivity loss and prioritizing employee wellbeing. SHIELD Illinois uses cutting-edge PCR technology and robotics to deliver fast reliable results to patients. We strive to have a positive impact on patients' lives across Illinois by making complicated testing and long turnaround times a thing of the past. The function of the Team Leader position is to head their own COVID Testing Team comprised of a few Test Site Assistants. Testing Teams are patient-facing and travel to different client sites and their duties involve set-up, collecting test samples, and tear down. The incumbent of this role must create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a Team Leader on client sites; set up/tear down, greet patients, log patients, maintain/adjust the site, and direct patients through the testing process
  • Manage Test Site Assistants on site; analyze workload, assign priorities, and maintain their focus
  • Develop schedules for the team and ensure proper team dynamics and employee engagement
  • Interpret legal requirements, provide safety information guidance
  • Ensure compliance with standard testing procedures
  • Track and manage any equipment, inventory, samples, expenditure receipts, and vehicle logs/maintenance requests using software and equipment, as needed
  • Engage and ensure positive interactions with clients, patients, external partners, and other Team Leaders and Teams
  • Consistently communicate with Testing Operations Team Coordinators regarding Team status
  • Collect, sort, and transport samples to designated locations
  • Dispose of properly labeled biohazard materials according to regulation
  • Routine vehicle upkeep; filling tank with gas, cleanliness
  • Develop team members professionally
  • Other tasks and responsibilities, as needed and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver's license.

Preferred
  • Experience presenting information to diverse groups of people
  • Prior experience in a Team Leader or Management position.

  • The incumbent of the Team Lead position requires an individual that is capable of people management, professional development of employees, inventory management, and schedule management of the team
  • Knowledge of medical safety protocols

Physical Demands
  • Position involves lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs

This is a full-time Civil Service Public Health Response Specialist position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
