Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director of EOP, the incumbent is responsible for independently scheduling and carrying out strategic EOP outreach and recruitment activities to a number of area and California schools. Activities to be carried out include admission presentations, application workshops, college fairs, and other recruiting events. These activities are conducted on the SDSU campus as well as at various school sites to which the incumbent must travel off campus.

The incumbent will advise prospective students and families and provide information about admission requirements. In addition, the incumbent will need to manage prospects using available data recruitment tools to increase the number of qualified prospects, admits and enrollees in EOP. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing relationships with other offices on campus and coordinating recruitment activities with the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, New Student and Parent Programs, Cultural Identity Centers and other areas to ensure strong collaboration.

In addition to duties related to outreach and recruitment the person holding this position will be expected to contribute to the retention efforts of the office of EOP as needed and when outreach activities are not prioritized.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in organizing and implementing student conferences for multicultural middle school, high school and community college students with the aim of informing and instructing students on the procedure in preparing for and participating in the admission process to EOP and the university
  • Extensive knowledge of middle school and high school programs and services in San Diego and Imperial counties
  • Demonstrated experience with oral and written presentations to parents, students and/or community groups
  • Thorough knowledge of SDSU policies and procedures, programs, and services
  • Experience with use of social media in reaching out to prospective students and alumni
  • Effective administrative skills with experience and expertise in administering student outreach programs for eligible EOP students and parents at the middle school, secondary or college level
  • Experience in creating publication materials and related communications information for print and Website use
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to effectively work independently, or in teams on multiple tasks or projects
  • Experience and knowledge of the specific needs of historically low-income and educationally disadvantaged students

Specialized Skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and experience presenting to small and large groups of diverse student, parent, and counselor audiences
  • Familiarity with middle school, high school and/or community college student/parent outreach and recruitment programs
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite data management systems.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,304 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,304- $6,120 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
