As a Health and Safety Intern you will be tasked with conducting written program and procedure reviews and developing training curriculums based on these programs. You will also work to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and worker injury regulations and carry out other tasks as assigned.

How You Will Make Contributions That Matter ...

  • Assist plants in reviewing, rewriting, and implementation of safety programs.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety training.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the Hazard Communication Program, Emergency Action Plant, Fire Prevention Plan, Confined Space Entry Program, Trenching and Excavation Program, and any other programs required by OSHA and Corporate Safety, Health and Environments Departments.
  • Work with employees and supervisors to complete JSA's.
  • Perform regular safety training sessions and hold toolbox talks with crews at sites.
  • Coordinate supplemental inspections whenever new processes, equipment or substances are introduces or new or previously unrecognized hazards are identified.
  • Help complete project safety pre-plans and hazard analysis with managers and supervisors for new jobs
  • Verify that corrective measures are completed in a timely fashion for any hazards identified.
  • Assist in investigating injuries and illnesses to determine cause and take action(s) to prevent recurrence
  • Participate in post incident analysis and communicate lessons learned.
  • Create safety talks as needed to support company initiatives, campaigns, or post incidents to increase awareness and communicate updates.
  • Submit weekly status reports specifying projects completed during the week.
  • Other duties or projects as required or requested.

  • Are pursuing a bachelors' or graduate degree in safety or a related field.
  • Are self-motivated, able to multi-task, can work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Are able to lead, influence, and motivate people.
  • Have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must have valid drivers' license and vehicle and ability to travel throughout the Wisconsin area/upper Midwest.
  • Have a working knowledge of computer programs (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.) a must, proficient skills preferred.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and positively represents and promotes Saputo at all times.
  • Have the ability to work scheduled hours and required overtime as needed.
  • Display traits of reliability, honesty, respect, attention to detail, and punctuality.
