Job Summary

The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for a group of engineers primarily serving in a continuation/sustaining engineering function. The Engineering Supervisor works with the value stream Engineering Managers, Business Directors, Compliance Dept. and other managers to fulfil continuation/sustaining engineering objectives. This requires a demonstrated ability to lead people and manage tasks/small projects successfully.

Engineering Supervisor demonstrates a thorough understanding of a focused and highly disciplined approach to managing tasks across value streams and engineering work. Independently solves complex problems associated with the design, development, and manufacturing of electronic products. The Engineering Supervisor must effectively communicate in cross functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, and production.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works closely across the organization to address continuation tasks.
  • Reviews requested work and works to prioritize tasks across value streams all with competing needs for limited resources. Achieves this by soliciting input from direct stake holders balancing that input against overall business priorities.
  • Drives individuals towards completing open issues.
  • Strong process skills will be needed to establish and operate a Kanban style system for addressing continuation issues.
  • Advises leadership and other impacted departments on design changes which may affect profit, shipping schedule, cost, regulatory status, or client relationships.
  • Assist with implementing improvements associated with ECO and P/N creation processes.
  • Leverages past experience and strong communication skills to help complete continuation issues.
  • Acts as a mentor to technical staff implementing best practices.
  • Develop and evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Responsible for providing work direction to individuals with respect to continuation tasks.
  • May serve as a technical lead on projects and provide guidance to other engineers.
  • Responsible for providing strong documentation.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to the manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    The Engineering Supervisor guides a team of up to 8 engineers. Advises on promotion, training, and termination decisions for the team. The Engineering Supervisor writes performance reviews and goals and objectives for all direct reports and plans for staff career development.

    Qualifications

    Required
    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
      • If a Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is held, substitutions may be made for the Bachelor's degree.
    • 6-10 years of product development with engineering experience on projects from the concept phase through the launch phase with leadership role.
    • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers
    • Knowledge of Engineering fundamentals
    • Knowledge of Engineering tools and software appropriate to the degree held.

    Desired
    • Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • Sustaining engineering experience
    • Knowledge of Kanban Systems
