Position Overview

The Senior Engineer Structures Infrastructure & Civil contributes to the company goals by improving, optimizing and standardizing structural, infrastructure and civil design in the early engineering phase and during execution of large Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects. Large Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects are critical to Novelis to realize its purpose, implement the strategy, achieve excellent operational performance (Focus 5) and highest possible capital efficiency (ROCE).

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver results through a strong working relationship with project teams, operations and corporate personnel, maintaining a high level of technical expertise regarding available technology and communicating clearly and relentlessly.
  • Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Aid the creation of global Novelis standards (for example for structures and civil design) while assuring to meet different national & international standards and requirements
  • Understand Novelis' processes and supporting those by providing a safe, excellent, and cost-efficient infrastructure for the operations using sustainable and state of the art technology.
  • Influence layout and design of new assets based on field construction knowledge and clear understanding of contractors and their design & construction methods to provide the highest level of design inherent safety and excellent conditions for Novelis' processes and operations.
  • Identify and propose opportunities for standardizing design of structures & infrastructure across regions and projects.
  • Provide technical analysis and review drawings, which requires disciplined time management when submitted or on an ad hoc basis.
  • Utilize historical documents as a baseline to acquire and analyse potential sites which may include desktop and field investigation.
  • Ensure Novelis's EHS values and standards are integrated throughout projects by establishing and enforcing policies and practices required to provide safe work practices, sustainable and reliable equipment, and a safe working environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required. Masters or higher preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience of civil and/ or structural engineering and 5+ years of field construction experience.
  • Skill in a language other than English, especially Portuguese, Chinese, Korean or German is advantageous.
  • Experience optimizing analysis, layout & design of structures, infrastructure, and civil aspects of large capital projects.
  • Execution of major construction projects in various regions.
  • Knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques, as well as CAD and graphics skills.
  • Experience developing RFQs, review vendor proposals, support supplier selection
  • People management, decision making, negotiation, intercultural skills, emotional intelligence, change management, "just do it" mentality
  • Flexibility to work in all areas
