Job Title: Emergency Generator Systems Mechanic (B)

Job Summary:

EMCOR Government Services has a need for an Emergency Generator Systems Mechanic for a Proposal Bid Effort with NASA Armstrong at Edwards AFB, CA.

*** This position is contingent upon contract award. ***

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing routine maintenance or repairs to power generation systems, including generators and ATS's. This includes diagnosing and/or troubleshooting generator, ATS, and switch gear problems with systems failures down to the mechanical / electrical component level.
  • Responsible for repair and service all makes and models of Generator Sets. Examples of comparable equipment experience desired include proficiency working on CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Kohler generators.
  • Responsible for performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting of generator systems, including but not limited to performing engine oil and coolant services, servicing, and priming fuel system. Also includes battery service, 12vdc and 24vdc troubleshooting and repair.
  • Responsible for performance of engine and ATS monthly, quarterly, and annual Preventive Maintenance to include ATS building load transfers.
  • Responsible for performing field inspections of generators and recording results of visual inspections and diagnostic tests. This also includes periodic testing to ensure proper function and performance.
  • Responsible for maintaining generator records with an accurate documentation of service and repairs, such as Maximo Work Orders and generator logs. This also includes preparing and submitting compliance, operational, and safety forms or reports associated with equipment maintained.
  • Responsible for communicating, coordinating, and interfacing with other technically qualified personnel as required to include Electrical, Controls and Management Personnel and specialty subcontractors.
  • Responsible and capable of working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals

Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years' experience in journeyman-level testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of emergency and standby power generators and diesel engines.
  • Must possess NFPA certification as an Emergency Power Systems Specialist (CEPSS) for Facility Managers and maintain certification IAW NFPA 110 and 111.
  • Must have knowledge of generators, diesel and gaseous engines, controls, and systems, transfer switches and switch gear.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot & repair AC and DC controls and equipment such as engine controllers, automatic voltage regulators, battery chargers, block heaters, automatic transfer switches and switchgear.
  • Must have advanced understanding of various generator components and their functions, including current transformers, relays, engine control modules, exhaust control technologies, voltage regulation.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, test, and repair all various types and manufacturers of automatic transfer switches, paralleling systems, distribution, and utility gear.
  • Must be capable of performing physical labor including, walking, standing, lift up to 40lbs, pulling, climbing up and down ladders and agility/dexterity to perform duties
  • Must be physically capable of working in confined
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR
