About the Department:

  • The Electrical Engineering Department plays a key role at Cepheid. Our department interfaces with all levels of the company and collaborates with Mechanical Engineering, Firmware/Software Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Regulatory, Service, Legal, as well as other cross-functional teams. Our department is focusing on applying electrical engineering principles to improve product reliability, enhance product functionality, refine operation processes, and integrating new solutions into the production environment.

Job Summary:

  • Projects may involve exploration of products and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches, origination or modification of material, component and process specifications and requirements.
  • During this internship, you will have an opportunity to:
  • Apply electrical engineering principles in the design and analysis of components, sub system and system.
  • Utilize engineering tools to design and optimize your designs (microprocessor based, mixed signal embedded systems ADC/DAC control, sensor signal conditioning using op-amps, electro-optic systems, and motor control).
  • Design and set up experiments, collect data, and write test protocol and qualification reports.
  • Electrical System Design and Integration, System-Level Testing Support, Schematic Capture, Bug Resolution.
  • Diagnose and investigate the root-cause of part, assembly or design failures using proven Danaher system for problem solving.
  • Learn and implement the DBS approach to problem solving and product development.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders to provide updates and provide task deliverables.
  • Support prototype and production pilot builds and resolve technical and quality issues.
  • Maintain, update and support the release of product functional specifications.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to develop and test new design and support analysis tasks.
  • Work on substantive projects that have the potential to impact the future business of the company.
  • Present the projects they have been involved with and lessons learned to the R&D team.

This Intern Will Work:

  • Hybrid (part-time on-site and part-time remote)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Applied Physics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project)
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and/or optical components
  • Course work on electronics circuit designs, computer programming and digital systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people and departments within the company
  • Ability to work in an office and engineering lab environment
  • Walking or standing within office area is routinely required; bending, kneeling, and stretching may be required for the operation of equipment

Biosafety Information:

  • As part of Cepheid's Biosafety and Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan, any associate who will be working with biohazardous materials or those who are required to work where others are using biohazardous materials, will be required to show proof of Hepatitis B Vaccination and take a biosafety training.
  • For associates who are not vaccinated but are willing to be, Cepheid will schedule the vaccination with our occupational health clinic before the intern goes into the lab.
  • Hiring managers and Cepheid's Biosafety Officer will determine which internships fall under this requirement.
