As a pioneer in robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), we have been expanding our innovations through technology to help make a difference in the world. For 25 years, human ingenuity has guided our journey to help solve some of healthcare’s complex challenges.

We believe a great idea can come from anywhere—inclusion and mutual respect are vital to our culture. We value character grounded in integrity, a strong capacity to learn, the energy to get things done, and diverse experiences to help us think in new ways. We actively invest in our team members to support their long-term growth so they can continue to advance our mission and strive to achieve their highest potential.

Join a team committed to taking big leaps forward for a global community of healthcare professionals and their patients. Together, let’s help to advance the world of minimally invasive care.

Primary Function of Position:

The Ion™ endoluminal system is Intuitive's robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung, with an initial goal of improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer. We are seeking a candidate with an analytical mind and exceptional electronic design skills to develop and commercialize new designs for our robotic platform. This role works closely with clinical, design, engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet clinical and user needs and perform reliably and effectively in the field. In this position, you will be part of a team of talented engineers in a focused, high energy, collaborative work environment, challenged to make sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible Engineer for a variety of PC boards, especially those that are tightly integrated with robotic mechanics
  • Represent design tradeoffs within multi-disciplinary teams to define requirements for new and current designs
  • Work closely with the FPGA engineering team to provide full functionality to the circuit design
  • Write detailed design documentation, including specifications and verification plans, for a regulatory-controlled environment
  • Develop and execute test methods for designs
  • Support commercialization of the final product by troubleshooting emerging design, manufacturing or component issues

Skills, Experience, Education, and Training:

Required:

  • Minimum BSEE, or similar.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of electronic components and hardware, including analog, power, FPGAs, microcontrollers, memories, logic, signal conditioning, and communication interfaces.
  • Familiarity with analog and/or power designs (such as motor drivers or power supplies) at the schematic and PCB-design level.
  • Self-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy, small, focused team environment, to maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward, and to make work fun and interesting.
  • Passion for details in creating robust and reliable electronics designed for mission-critical applications
  • Strong concept development, design analysis, hands-on prototyping, and performance and reliability testing skills
  • Thorough understanding of engineering materials, fabrication processes, component selection criteria, and design for reliability and manufacturability
  • Familiarity with the full product development lifecycle including concept development, design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing

Preferred:

  • MSEE (Post-graduate study) or equivalent work experience, minimum 5+ years experience
  • Familiarity with RF and antenna circuitry such as used in RFID and communications (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, power transfer, etc.)
  • Experience designing PC boards, including hands-on board layout (Allegro preferred), bring-up, and debug.
  • Familiarity with Verilog or other HDL programming languages
  • Experience with scripting languages, especially Python
