Position Overview
This position is a 50% time position.This position is a key member of the Professional Development department and is located at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Parsons, Kansas

The Professional Development department provides professional training courses, conferences and workshops to local, county, state, tribal, railroad and federal law enforcement agency personnel. Professional training programs reach audiences in every area of Kansas. Comprehensive programming develops from collaborations with client organizations representing line and administrative staff. As a Professional Development program coordinator, one main responsibility is to provide support to the Associate Director for Professional Development for program development and delivery, implementation of new programs and direct interaction with stakeholders. Will serve as the contact for assigned continuing education programs and assign training programs in conjunction with the supervisor. The program coordinator is responsible for coordinating student/staff services, daily scheduling of facilities and resources, ensuring all necessary material is available when needed, and interaction with law enforcement agencies and other government entities throughout the state. The program coordinator is also responsible for coordinating the expanding use of continuing education technology and management systems, including online classes in Canvas and Enroll information/registration systems.


Hutchinson Campus
The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC), a unit of the University of Kansas, is located near Hutchinson, Kansas. KLETC consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two student dormitories. KLETC also operates regional sites in Dodge City, Hays, and Parsons, Kansas.

The Hutchinson Campus is home to KLETC. KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages an $8.1 million annual budget, 58 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs. Many KLETC basic training and continuing education programs are conducted in a high risk and high liability environment (firearms, use of force, emergency vehicle operations driver training, defense tactics, and search and seizure).

  • Coordinate the development, marketing and delivery of law enforcement continuing education and specialized law enforcement seminars, courses, classes, workshops, schools and other training-related events being held at regional training sites across Kansas.
  • Executes the KLETC's business strategy by offering seminars, workshops, schools, courses and classes on a variety of law enforcement related topics. This includes coordinating and overseeing other law enforcement-related training events as identified by the management team.
  • Researches, and develops law enforcement continuing education training classes and seminars for local, state and federal law enforcement officers.
  • Determines audio-visual equipment needs, instructional supplies, participant supplies and various staff/instructional needs for training events.
  • Recruits subject matter experts as instructors and negotiates terms of contracts.
  • Directs and manages logistics at the training program event. Activities include but are not limited to registrations, classroom set-up, instructional needs and primary contact with regard to participant concerns.
  • Manages program assessment by conducting, interpreting and reporting evaluations from training events.
  • Responsible for making independent decisions regarding unanticipated contingencies associated with the program.
  • Develop marketing strategies for promoting continuing education and specialized training programs.
  • Distribute a monthly e-mail of upcoming KLETC courses to Kansas's law enforcement agencies within their region.
  • Ensures regional training site is maintained and prepared for training. Prepare reports, correspondence, charts, graphs and other documents related to assigned responsibilities and duties.
20% - Registrar:
  • Enrolls students in continuing and professional education classes.
  • Reviews registrations to ensure accuracy and contacts enrollees if additional information is needed.
  • Communicates with students, agency heads, etc. to answer questions or provide needed assistance regarding continuing and professional development classes.
  • Handles sensitive and confidential information.
  • Schedules classes in coordination with other KLETC training sites.
  • Notifies staff of all upcoming classes.
  • Prepares printed materials, such as class rosters, name tents, handouts, certificates of attendance, etc. as needed for professional development courses.
  • Sets up classrooms as needed.
15% - Education Technology Management:
  • Serve as SME for all KLETC Information Technology used in classroom or remote settings
  • Understanding of systems and network operations, and applications.
  • Understand educational and classroom technology.
  • Understand simulator technology.
  • Develop and implement technological initiatives to support training.
  • Periodically review the KLETC continuing education web site training calendar for accuracy, and ensuring that it is up-to-date.
  • Enter training class information on the KLETC continuing education web site training calendar.
15% - Represent KLETC in the Law Enforcement Community:
  • Perform administrative duties in support of the KLETC mission.
  • Establish short and long term goals relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Represent KLETC at conferences; serve on commissions, committees or boards.
  • Actively participate in partnerships with the Kansas law enforcement community and professional law enforcement associations as directed by the management team
  • Regularly schedule and facilitate regional training council meetings.
  • Working with event planning committees to develop and implement law enforcement association conference programs that occur within regions;
  • Coordinate distance learning programs, classes, courses, etc. with other law enforcement agencies or organizations to ensure maximum customer service.
5% - Other duties as assigned Position Requirements
  1. Moderate travel including overnight stays and multiple destinations may be required to perform the responsibilities and duties assigned to this position.
  2. Position requires long periods of sitting.
  3. Position requires the ability to lift up to 10 lbs either with or with out accommodation of notebooks, paper and/or office supplies.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree and three years related experience
  2. Excellent communication skills as evidenced by work history and application materials submitted
  3. Three (3) years experience in the management, coordination or delivery of education and/or training programs
  4. Two (2) years of experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications/technology
  5. Two (2) years of experience organizing and managing multiple and varied tasks and projects as demonstrated by education, work history and application materials
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in the management of the training process or in the training and/or education of adults
  2. Knowledge of and/or experience in distance learning delivery mediums
  3. A demonstrated ability to work with members of the law enforcement community and/or professional law enforcement associations
  4. Demonstrated experience in coordinating remote training and/or events
  5. Experience working independently to achieve goals with minimal supervision
  6. Experiences working with diverse individuals, such as adult learners, faculty administrators or professional groups
  7. Experience working effectively in a team environment and with deadlines and multiple rapidly evolving priorities
