Disability Van Driver - Parking Monitor

Position Summary:
Operate the Vandal Access service van, providing daily on-campus transportation to faculty, staff, and/or students with temporary or permanent mobility limiting disabilities. The disability van driver is responsible for reviewing scheduled rides daily, safely driving the Vandal Access van to provide rides in accordance with the established schedule while being courteous to the public and maintaining order in the vehicle. The driver assists passengers with disabilities in loading and unloading from the vehicle as needed, coordinates details related to requested schedules, communicates with riders to manage scheduling conflicts, and works to stay on schedule at all times. Additionally, the Disability Van Driver will provide general campus parking enforcement during times when Vandal Access ridership is minimal, checking vehicles parked on campus for compliance with parking regulations and issuing parking citations/warnings to vehicles, as well as performing other parking monitor duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 1 year of work experience demonstrating the following: excellent communication and customer service skills in-person and via the phone, the ability to read, write and speak effectively, and knowledge of basic arithmetic and basic computer programs including Microsoft Office;
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI driving requirements;
• Must possess AED/CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment;
• Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as part of their employment with the University of Idaho.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience safely driving passengers for special events, corporate/university campus mobility or public transportation;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with upset customers;
• Possess a valid class B or C Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement;
• Familiarity with university parking policies;
• Experience operating two-way radios;
• Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
• Possess the ability to accommodate several requests at one time.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to:
• Lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds;
• Occasionally drive in and perform exterior vehicle checks in extreme weather conditions;
• Drive a vehicle for long periods of time throughout a shift;
• Operate a wheelchair lift.
Driver must comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and is subject to the following drug and Alcohol testing: pre-employment (post-offer/pre-duty), post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up.
