Position Summary

The Director, Technical Operations, Business Operations will collaborate with cross functional stakeholders to streamline operations and drive effective knowledge sharing within and between Technical Operations, Commercial, Quality, Regulatory and other functions. As a member of the Technical Operations Leadership Team and reporting to the VP, Technical Operations, the incumbent will engage with all levels of the organization to identify areas of opportunity and drive change. As a self-starter who is eager for change and ready to challenge assumptions, they will be responsible for leading lead strategic core initiatives that will have long lasting impact on the enterprise performance and the success of our product portfolio.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative solutions that will simplify the development and manufacturing of key products and deliverables within the Technical Operations teams, identifying inefficiencies, and ensuring those solutions are viable and incorporated as per plan.
  • Establish relationships within the broader organization and support projects that will have material impact on our business performance.
  • Lead project management activities for special business initiatives across Technical Operations.
  • Drive greater functional engagement by leading the Technical Operations employee engagement activities including training and development initiatives.
  • Oversee change management efforts to support process improvements, updated workflows and organizational changes.
  • Ensure communications between the team, line management and/or senior management are handled in an efficient, effective, and timely manner, to ensure a "no surprises" management environment. Included in this would be oversight of Technical Operations Leadership teams.
  • Be the point person on the Technical Operations budgeting process and actual spend vs. budget.
  • Coordinate initiatives that have impact across Technical Operations teams such as internal audits and other intermittent projects
  • Lead the development of departmental objectives and coordinate regular reporting out against the objectives
  • Provide project management support for key technical operations projects through management of direct reports and contract workers as required.


Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, Education, and Experience
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Minimum of 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry with at least 7 in a Sr. Level role.
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical companies' operations
  • In-depth understanding of the drug development process and commercialization activities
  • Excellent strategic decision-making and analytical skills;
  • Extensive understanding of corporate and management practices.
  • Experience working with alliance partners and external vendors
  • Passion for simplification, leadership, and problem solving.


Skills/Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree minimum
  • Resourcefulness, passion, persistence, and a positive attitude

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and writing skills
  • Strong communication and negotiations skills

Preferred:
  • Additionally, a graduate degree: Masters; MBA is preferred


Physical Demands and Work Environment

Travel (approximately 30%)
