Job Description Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional leader to drive product strategy and execution for PayPal's AI/ML Platform. Join us as we pursue our disruptive new vision to democratize AI/ML across PayPal to support a diverse set of use cases, from conversational agents that leverage state-of-the-art language models, to payment routing optimization systems, to some of the industry's most complex graph models that power near real-time risk detection for millions of payments per day. The AI/ML Platform will be pivotal in enabling delightful experiences to our 375 Million Customers and 27+ Million Merchants, in addition to advancing capabilities to win 1 billion daily active users. Machine learning is instrumental to PayPal's strategy; as our CEO Dan Schulman stated earlier this year, we are building solutions that "...transcend payments, commerce and financial services, all of that on a common platform, all of that leveraging common data elements and machine learning".
The Director of Product for AI/ML will drive strategy and guide a team of PMs to build a use case-agnostic, industry-grade AI/ML Platform. This stack is being built from the ground up on modern open-source, cloud-based technologies with sponsorship from the highest levels of management to accelerate AI/ML adoption within PayPal Inc. Given the rapid pace and evolution of tools and frameworks in this space, the leader will require extensive familiarity as well as ongoing commitment to staying current with many technologies and tools within the data, analytics, and AI/ML space. This role will be responsible for mentoring a world-class team of Product Managers and will drive functionality, user experience and overall product strategy. The team is uniquely positioned to bring together ground-breaking innovations, work with outstanding platform engineers and build solutions for some of the most skilled data science and machine learning teams in the world.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:
  • Build, coach and lead a strong team of product managers that set the standard in the industry.
  • Act as Portfolio Owner of AI/ML platform products. Drive product vision and help teams deploy analytical capabilities that support risk, marketing, sales, customer support, product engagement and many other across PayPal and its brands.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (business, partners, program, architecture, development, UX) to drive alignment around product strategy.
  • Drive innovation by Identifying new opportunities based on research, industry trends and best practices.
  • Drive product development and execution with a team of world-class engineers and designers.
  • Define and measure key performance indicators to evaluate and understand product value.
  • Build trust and effective relationships with peers/cross-functional teams and influence senior leaders to communicate AI/ML vision, strategy, goals, status, and customer impact.
  • Represent product to stakeholders and to peers across PayPaland develop go-to market strategies to promote adoption of platform offerings across multiple teams.
  • Evangelize the product roadmap and build strong relationships with key customers that will allow to understand gaps and build the right solutions.
  • Collaborate with geo distributed engineering, customers and product management team spanning multiple time zones.

Requirements:
  • MS degree in Computer Science or related technical field. Advanced degrees including PhD or MBA a plus.
  • 8+ years in Product leadership role with proven leadership skills.
  • 15+ years' experience in product management, product development or architecture design with a focus on technology platform, data and/or machine learning. Knowledge of public cloud infrastructure such as Google, AWS, Azure is preferred.
  • Extensive familiarity with AI/ML either from the application side, or ML infrastructure.
  • Experience in define product OKRs, measure KPIs, and bring clarity of execution to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to practice strong ownership, drive change in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Fearless leader able to constructively advance opinionated perspective, well-informed by industry and customer analysis, to all levels of organization.
  • Has a strong executive presence.
  • Very high EQ and ability to empathize and communicate with customers and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience must include large-scale application platform and infrastructure management.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies to understand customers, ability to explore and structure customers' insights to inform prioritization.
  • Strong ability to translate product needs to technology and understand technology.Detail-oriented, unfazed by technical detail, committed to flawless execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing customer-facing products, technologies and platforms.
  • Working knowledge of deep learning, machine learning and statistics.
  • Working knowledge of agile methodology
  • Working knowledge of SaaS AI platforms and have prior experience in migrating on-prem AI/ML platform to public cloud.
  • Experience leading and managing geo distributed cross-functional teams including Product team
