General Purpose

The Director of Marketing and Advertising develops and implements strategies and tactics to secure leads and prospects for School of Nursing margin-generating programs and initiatives. The Director works closely with leaders and staff within the admissions and academic program teams to secure prospects to ensure student enrollment goals related to budget, diversity, selectivity, and yield are met, including the development of program-specific comprehensive plans for ongoing communications with prospective and admitted students throughout the solicitation, application, and admission process. The Director works closely with the leaders responsible for other margin-generating programs including those part of DUSON's business development initiatives and new, innovative programs to create marketing and advertising plans to promote those initiatives and achieve revenue goals. The Director collaborates closely with the Assistant Dean for Communications, Marketing, and Business Development to ensure use of the DUSON brand and brand messaging is consistent across all aspects of the school's internal and external marketing and communications materials. Although DUSON is engaged in marketing, promotion, and public relations in a number of ways and at multiple levels, this position is fully focused upon helping to generate revenue for programs and initiatives that create incremental financial margin for the school. Essential Duties

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & INNOVATIVE PROGRAMSCollaborates closely with the VDFA, DUSON innovators and leaders of new initiatives.
    Supports the evaluation of the market for new, margin generating initiatives and makes recommendations to the innovator(s) and VDFA about viability of the market to support the success of the initiative or idea. Develops advertising strategies and budgets to support the successful launch of new, incremental margin-generating initiatives, product or service lines and innovative programs, with a focus upon achievement of revenue targets.Develops and implements advertising and marketing strategies in support of ongoing business development initiatives. Examples include the promotion of TAMS and AEM, Global Scholars Program, Navigating National Accreditation, Population Care Coordination Program, Duke Elder Caregivers Training, Health Innovation Lab and CND monetization, and the rental of space and video studio facilities.Develops and implements a comprehensive program of ongoing communication with current TAMS licensees in support of renewal strategies. Works closely with the TAMS client engagement and operations leaders. Writes copy and designs templates for marketing programs including materials, webpages, social media posts, paid search, and related ads. Develops creative approaches in support of business development and innovative, margin-generating program growth. Responsible for design and content of business development initiative websites, working with the communications and marketing team for brand and messaging consistency and implementation support.
STUDENT ADVERTISING & RECRUITMENTCollaborates closely with leaders and staff within the admissions, student services and academic affairs program teams.
    Develops, implements, and evaluates advertising and marketing strategies to achieve student prospect goals. Oversees the work of DUSON's contracted advertising agency, including regularly assessing ad performance and evaluating alternative approaches to maximize the effectiveness of advertising spend. Creates and maintains a dashboard of metrics to monitor performance of strategies.Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive program of ongoing communication with prospective students, those who have started their admissions application, fully submitted applicants, those offered admission and those who have accepted the admissions offer until they matriculate. Ensures messaging reinforces DUSON's and the applicable academic program's value proposition, is paced in support of prospect recruitment goals and has consistent design, look, and feel that is also consistent with school-wide DUSON branding.Collaborates with academic program, admissions and diversity, equity, and inclusion leaders to develop advertising that supports the expansion of student applicant and enrolled student diversity and a holistic approach to admissions. Oversees the work of DUSON's contracted advertising agency, including regularly assessing ad performance and evaluating alternative approaches to maximize the effectiveness of advertising spend.Writes copy and designs templates for ongoing communications with prospective and admitted students, recruitment materials, student recruitment focused webpages, social media posts, paid search, and other student recruitment ads. Develops creative and innovative approaches in support of student prospect advertising. Collaborates with the DUSON marketing and communications team to incorporate student recruitment messaging within websites, social media campaigns and other communications managed by the team. Evaluates student recruitment materials for accuracy and messaging and updates as needed.Supports the evaluation of the nursing higher education market for new degree and certificate-based academic programs. Develops advertising strategies and budgets to support the successful launch of new academic programs, with a focus upon achievement of revenue targets.
OTHER LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
    Hire, supervise, and evaluate marketing staff as the business development initiative expands and academic program advertising needs grow. Supervise and coordinate work of designated employees.Ensure related policies and regulations, including Duke and DUSON brand guidelines, are followed while executing responsibilities.Ensure an extremely high level of customer service, responsiveness, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Requirements

EDUCATION

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. A bachelor's degree specializing in marketing or a master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Work generally requires six years of experience in public relations, marketing, sales and promotions, media, use of social media, modern and innovative advertising strategies, or a related field to acquire skills necessary to manage a comprehensive and diversified marketing program. Higher education experience preferred.
