DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS

Colby College

Waterville, Maine

THE SEARCH

Colby College, one of the nation's preeminent liberal arts institutions, seeks a forward thinking, intellectually curious and collaborative professional to be its next Director of Institutional Research and Analytics (IR).

The Director will join the College at a time of tremendous opportunity. Colby's reputation and resources have expanded dramatically under President David Greene's leadership over the last seven years. Applications have swelled from slightly more than 5,000 to nearly 16,000 since 2015; the College launched a $750 million comprehensive campaign, Dare Northward, the largest campaign among all liberal arts colleges; the College's leaders and innovative programs have an increasingly visible presence in the national media; the city of Waterville is being transformed through a partnership with Colby and more than $100 million in collective investments.

For this critical position, the College is seeking an institutional research leader who thinks broadly about institutional effectiveness, data governance, how IR should interface with other functions and offices, and how it can most effectively support the academic enterprise and student success. Reporting to the Provost, the Director will take the lead in integrating IR more closely with departments across the institution and creating a culture in which the office is strategic, proactive, and analytical in serving Colby's mission and its constituencies. In addition to providing the data and analysis required to support institutional effectiveness, the Director will be a partner and thought leader advising Colby's leadership on trends and key issues to enhance the College's academic standing and financial health.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and communications skills and a sophisticated understanding of effective, rigorous institutional research and decision support in the context of current higher education imperatives. They will have a collaborative leadership style and the capacity to work and communicate effectively in a decentralized institution with multiple stakeholders with diverse perspectives. The Director will be a collaborative leader who builds strong relationships across the College and a critical partner to the Provost and senior leadership by raising questions and providing data and analyses to drive the College's planning and decision-making.
