The Oncology Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department provides ADME/DMPK, as well as translational PKPD Modeling & Simulation support to our portfolio. We are looking for an individual who has a passion for ADME and DMPK science, applied to Cancer biology.

As the Director of DMPK, you will report to the Head of Boston DMPK and supervise ADME scientists locally in Boston who provide drug discovery and development support for our diverse portfolio including; small molecules, biologics, nano-medicines and PROTACs. The qualified candidate will also work closely with our ADME team in Cambridge (UK). In addition, the selected individual will also function as a DMPK Representative/Design Lead Scientist and have the opportunity to provide input into drug discovery and development across the global Oncology portfolio.

The role holder will contribute to Oncology DMPK by:

  • Supervising and managing a team of ADME scientists by mentoring and challenging them, as well as providing expert advice and context for the interpretation of complex data.
  • Developing and implementing state-of-the-art technologies in the field of drug metabolism and transporters.
  • Leading DMPK-related compound design activities to ensure project ADME challenges are thoroughly assessed and resolved from HTS work-up to candidate nomination through risk mitigation and/or structural modification.
  • Applying an expert understanding of DMPK, physico-chemical property assays and/or biotransformation reactions to discovery project chemistry and data.
  • Recommending, initiating, leading and championing new innovations from external, global and local DMPK project science strategies that ensure cutting-edge science is applied to drug project issues.
  • Carrying out collaborative research aligned to DMPK and Oncology objectives and publishing research papers and reviews in internationally recognized journals.
  • Bringing a fresh perspective into the group and the enthusiasm to tackle new challenges and learn new skills.
  • Supporting the department's leadership team in both the strategic vision for the department and in the efficient and progressive running of the department.
  • Managing student and Post Doc programmes.
  • Involvement in external collaborative projects with academic or cross-pharma pre-competitive groups.

Minimum Requirements:
  • PhD or equivalent degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmacology with experience in drug discovery, or a higher degree in a research area relevant to DMPK science.
  • At least 8+ years of relevant industry experience in ADME/Project Representation or a MS degree with at least 13+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of DMPK science with a proven ability to delineate the impact of chemical structure on measured properties.
  • Practical experience of DMPK assay delivery including experimentation, assessment of assay quality and troubleshooting of data issues.
  • Track record of successful problem solving, high quality science and influencing of stakeholders, particularly in a drug project context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that lead to successful collaborative working relationships.
  • Good understanding of the drug discovery process and how DMPK studies contribute to that process
  • Desire to carry out scientific development and research work with a view to publishing collaboratively
  • Can-do attitude and a desire to learn and adapt is essential.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with multiple modalities including; small molecules, biologics, nano-medicines and PROTACs is a plus.
