The Director of Emergency Services under the direction of the Sr. Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer of Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) serves as a member of the Corporate Administrative staff residing in the Office of the CNO. This position provides leadership, expertise and oversight to all hospitals in the area of providing emergency care. This leader is the administrative sponsor for the BSWH Emergency Department Council along with the designated physician leader ensuring the delivery of quality patient care as part of an integrated delivery system. He/she identifies, develops and implements programs to achieve the goals and objectives of BSWH and maintains effective working relationships with medical staff, peers and the community. Provides leadership and direction to BSWH emergency services, strategies, plans and operating performance. Leads in the strategic planning of emergency service initiatives in partnership with the BSWH CNO & Presidents Councils, BSWH ED Council, local and regional EMS providers as well as other similar partners to provide recommendation and advice concerning system objectives, strategies and tactics related to emergency services. Consults with entity CNOs, Presidents and Medical Staff to develop short and long range department goals and action plans to attain agreed upon goals. Identifies opportunities for business development and modifications to existing emergency care and service; writes or oversees the development of financial proformas; provides leadership during implementation of new business plans, programs and services.  Identifies, develops and drives implementation of best practices based on evidence, ensuring that protocols, policies and procedures promote and result in improved patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.  Develops programs and tools to elevate, and document relevant clinical and leadership competencies of emergency services personnel. Provides focused attention to facilities during times of emergency department leadership vacancies.  Benchmarks, reviews and monitors outcomes in emergency care areas driving sustained improvement.  Improves operational excellence through cost, quality and service management.  Explores and drives opportunities for improved efficiency, effectiveness and standardization in the use of processes, tools, equipment and technology as well as the exploration and implementation of new technology for emergency care areas. Monitors fiscal resources by supporting preparation and management of operational and capital budgets; assures appropriate charge capture methodology; monitors or oversees contracts and/or purchased service arrangements and utilization relevant to emergency services.  Develops emergency services dashboard including productivity, patient satisfaction, throughput, quality, efficiency and effectiveness measures.  Assures policies, procedures and processes are established for compliance with laws, rules and regulatory requirements. Assure that all areas of responsibility meet Joint Commission requirements and state and federal regulation.  Develops and maintains effective working relationships with medical staff, management peers throughout BSWH, boards, business partners, community organizations, professional associations, disaster preparedness organizations and other healthcare facilities in order to gather and exchange information, develop and implement solutions to problems and initiate new programs. Participates actively in national and local professional organizations representing and promoting BSWH to the public, its constituencies, healthcare organizations, governmental agencies, mass gatherings, visibility at sporting events etc.  Markets BSWH as a world class leader for emergency services; identifies and operationalizes opportunities to create visibility for BSWH in mass gatherings such as sporting events. Serves as a member of local and/or regional disaster preparedness agencies or groups.  Ensures that the operations of Emergency Services are compliant to the various standards and conditions set forth by the various governmental and accrediting agencies. Seeks out and facilitates opportunities to participate in research related to emergency care. Promotes emergency nursing as a career option through facilitating clinical rotations with schools of nursing and provides didactic information to schools.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - Masters'

- EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 5 years experience required

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
      &nbspMedical Doctor (MD), Registered Nurse (RN): Must be either a medical doctor (MD) or a Registered Nurse (RN).
