ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DOWDY MULTICULTURAL CENTER

Through continued emphasis and development, West Chester University (WCU) announces two leadership opportunities and invites nominations and applications to fill the positions of Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center and Assistant Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center.

Enrolling more than 17,000 students, West Chester University is the largest member of the 14-institution Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Founded in 1871, the University is a comprehensive public institution offering 118 undergraduate programs, 103 master's degree and 4 doctoral programs in more than 50 fields of study. In addition to the main campus in West Chester, the University offers programs through its graduate center, the Philadelphia campus, and online. The Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center, under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Student Development, provides leadership, management, vision and oversight for a broad and inclusive programming model that enhances the academic, social, professional and personal development of all students, while focusing specific attention on the support of WCU's underrepresented minorities from enrollment through graduation. The director actively contributes to the university strategic efforts to affect a positive campus climate and promote the engagement, persistence, and retention of underrepresented students.

A successful candidate for the Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center position will have an earned Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling education or any closely related field; A minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in appropriate levels and areas of specialization including experience working within a multicultural and/or identity center; Demonstrated ability to supervise and train staff; and experience working within a culturally diverse university community. Preferred, but not required, qualifications include: An earned Doctoral degree in higher education, leadership or counseling education or any closely related field; evidence of supervision of multiple full-time professionals, graduate assistants and student employees; Excellent oral and written communications and presentation skills; Experience with duties such as budgeting, strategic planning, and assessment of learning; Experience using technology to further the department's mission.

The position of Assistant Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center reports directly to the Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center. The Assistant Director assists in developing, implementing, and facilitating programs and activities which enhance the academic, social, professional and personal development of all students, focusing specific attention on the support of WCU's underrepresented minorities from enrollment through graduation. In addition, the Assistant Director also coordinates efforts from the Center that foster awareness and appreciation for racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity and inclusion for the West Chester University community, contributing to the University's strategic efforts to affect a positive campus climate and promote the engagement, persistence and retention of underrepresented students.

A successful candidate for the Assistant Director position will have an earned Bachelor's Degree in any related field; A minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in appropriate levels and areas of specialization; Ability to manage confidential information in the utmost professional manner; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to advise/supervise undergraduate student leaders and student employees; Experience working in a diverse, multicultural campus environment; Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with students, faculty and staff; Experience with administrative tasks such as budgeting, strategic planning and assessment of learning; Experience utilizing appropriate technology. Preferred, but not required, qualifications include: Master's Degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling education or related field; Experience advising and working with student organizations; Experience with marketing programs and events through various channels of communication.

Salary

The salary for the Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center position is $78,000. The salary for the Assistant Director of the Dowdy Multicultural Center is $50,308.
