The North Carolina Immigration and Refugee Program (IRP) Offices, currently located in Greensboro, Durham, Wilmington, and Charlotte, are leaders in the state for refugee resettlement and refugee and immigrant integration, leadership development, and community organizing initiatives. Primary Purpose: The Development Specialist will provide administrative, customer relations, and project support to fundraising, marketing, and community engagement initiatives at Church World Service programs in North Carolina. This position will join a growing and dynamic team that is working to secure and expand funding and community support across the state for CWS’s services for refugees, immigrants, and asylum-seekers.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain strong donor, volunteer, and stakeholder records and listservs
  • Assist with donor and volunteer acknowledgement efforts
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, including coordinating mailings and pulling reports
  • Assist with event planning and execution
  • Assist with marketing and communications efforts
  • Assist with keeping websites and public-facing platforms up-to-date
  • Provide customer relations support for community stakeholders, including by email, telephone, and community events
  • Maintain confidentiality around donor and client sensitive information
  • Assist with general fundraising support as required, such as thank-you notes
  • Stay informed about refugee and immigrant issues and policy; advocate for refugee and immigrant friendly policies and practices
  • Represent CWS in meetings and events relevant to the position
  • Undertake other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent degree
Experience:
  • Customer relations experience
  • Data entry and record-keeping
Skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, especially Excel and Word
  • Professional written and interpersonal skills are essential when communicating with customers and clients
  • Strong organization skills
  • English-language fluency
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and willingness to support CWS’ Platform on Racial Justice as a CWS employee required
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working with Salesforce a plus
  • Fundraising experience a plus
  • General knowledge of Wordpress and social media platforms
  • Experience creating pivot tables in Excel


Special Requirements:
  • Work varied hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing and able to travel within NC, occasionally on short notice
  • Must be able to work in person out of either the Greensboro or Durham office (primary office location is flexible). Hybrid work arrangements are possible after completion of 60-day probationary period; incumbent will be expected to work in-office 2-3 days/week.
  • Must have clean driving record, valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle. Mileage accrued while executing work responsibilities is reimbursable by CWS.
  • Must be able to pass a Background Check
