JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for overseeing and ensuring that design engineering principals are being followed. In addition, the Senior Design Engineer is responsible for supporting Sales Representatives and Marketing by providing technical and engineering assistance on the use of Tremco CPG products.

The Senior Design Engineer will work directly with Sales, Marketing, Technical Service and the Customer to ensure product expectations are met. The Senior Design Engineer will participate in Team Selling onsite, over the phone or via e-mail to bring technical expertise to the selling process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design conceptual drawings to initiate design dialogue; make appropriate design recommendations including complex recommendations as it relates to gasket and glazing systems.
  • Design conceptual drawings to initiate design recommendations for integrated CPG product offerings within the in-plant panelization and on-behalf of third-party fabrication customers.
  • Create and be a training resource for 2D and 3D drawings in CAD when new designs are necessary.
  • Mentor Draftsmen as it relates to customer interface, including creating and delivering PowerPoint presentations that provide customer solutions and solve highly complex problems.
  • Respond to customer (consultants, contractors, architects) inquiries regarding glazing systems
  • Travel to customer sites to provide troubleshooting and application support.
  • Communicate design needs and preferences to the customer or sales representative; prepare written and verbal recommendations including compound/durometer recommendations.
  • Recommend solutions to highly complex customer problems/issues.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers and appropriate plant personnel to determine manufacturability of designs.
  • Work with applicable departments to diagnose product errors or malfunctions and communicate resolutions to the Sales Representative and customer.
  • Collaborate in the die and trial phase to approve part's quality/functionality.
  • Lead or participate in project teams to provide departmental/design engineering expertise.
  • Participate in industry association meetings (i.e. AAMA, GANA, IGMA) and provide input and experiences to the department manager to assist in setting standards and developing protocols.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical/Construction, Architectural, or similar) from a four-year college or university
EXPERIENCE
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D &3D Required
  • Five years relevant experience in construction and or related product design
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM)/3D modeling Required (Autodesk Inventor, Revit, SolidWorks)
  • Must have experience interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Experience in the construction, Rubber Extrusion, Modular, Insulated Glass or Glazing industry is preferable
  • ASTM construction standards experience preferred
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience with Auto CAD, Work, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effective team player
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25% in the North America region.
  • Mechanical aptitude

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Industry Involvement Preferred - Construction, Fenestration & Insulating Glass, Modular Construction
