GENERAL SUMMARY:  TheDean of the School of Transportation & Heavy Equipment, reports directly tothe Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, and serves as the senior academicleader of the unit. The programs of study within this unit are: Diesel andHeavy Equipment and Automotive Technologies. The Dean is responsible for thestrategic leadership of the School's personnel, resources facilities andofferings, is a member of the University's Academic Council, and represents theSchool and institution amongst their constituencies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to the active engagement of School and institutional stakeholders in the ongoing evaluation of existing and potential programs and services concerning current and emerging state and national trends.
  • Ensure the appropriate specialized accreditations are  achieved and/or maintained and, support institutional accreditation initiatives.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, evaluation and development of faculty and academic staff vis-à-vis School and institutional policies, practices and strategic priorities.
  • Promote and advance diversity and inclusion; foster collegiality and positive morale.
  • Engage in and model entrepreneurial leadership of and support for the School's programs, services, students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the collaborative development and fulfillment of short- and long-term strategic priorities for the School, as well as the policies, procedures and initiatives appropriate for achieving them.
  • Advance the fiscal health of the School and its programs through a range of activities-to include effective resource utilization and pursuit of extramural resources.
  • Provide leadership to the School's student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Ensure that accurate records are maintained relative to all School interests.
  • Monitor and provide oversight to School assets and facilities.
  • Ensure safe work and learning environments.
  • Develop and maintain robust relationships with alumni and industry representatives in related workforce disciplines and sectors.
  • Promote and support academic innovation and excellence.
  • Represent the School and University in appropriate  professional and community organizations and related activities.
  • Actively encourage and engage in collaborations with  internal and external entities to advance the School, OSUIT and their stakeholders.
  • Serve as an active, contributing member of the  University's Academic Council, Administrative Council and other committees as assigned.
  • Balance activities, interests and obligations as a School and OSUIT leader.
  • Coordinate and communicate School activities with Academic Affairs, Fiscal Affairs, Students Services, the President's Office, Marketing & Communications, the OSU Foundation, and other units as appropriate.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities to meet the needs of the School and/or OSUIT.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Should possess the credentials necessary to qualify as a faculty member for one of the School's programs; graduate degree(s) highly preferred. Individuals with alternate combinations of credentials and/or experience may be considered. 
  • A history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in collaborative management and leadership; experience in higher education administration preferred.
  • Postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to plan, organize and fulfill complex initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with technology.
  • Ability to research and interpret federal, state and institutional policies.
  • Understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education; comprehension of land-grant colleges and universities preferred.
  • Ability to effectively engage community and industry leaders and alumni.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work, initiative, commitment, ethics, professional responsibility and judgment.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, budgeting and reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively with and promote diverse populations.
  • Superior interpersonal skills-including the ability to effectively recognize and resolve complex problems in a constructive manner. 
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, exercise decorum
    in all interactions with stakeholders, and be able to effectively recognize and mitigate conflict.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Travel required.
  • Normal office physical environment; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
