As one of the city's largest employers, Wayne State has a $2.4 billion impact in Detroit - a driving force behind the city's resurgence.

Established in 1946, the business school was renamed in 2015 in recognition of a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch. The mission of MISB is to prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers, advance the boundaries of scholarly and practitioner knowledge and enhance the economic vitality of the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond, through its programs, research and community engagement. Undergraduate students can enroll in one of six undergraduate majors: accounting, finance, global supply chain management, information systems management, marketing and management, as well as an undergraduate certificate in entrepreneurship and innovation and a post-bachelor certificate in accounting. The school also offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (Ph.D.) with three program tracks of marketing, management and finance. All students enjoy access to a variety of learning platforms for career success.

Reporting to the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, the dean is the chief academic, administrative and fiscal officer of the school. The next dean will generate new resources, expand undergraduate enrollment, strategically develop additional masters and certificate programs, maximize the value of the school's state-of-the-art facility, and engage with local and regional business communities. The dean will also work closely with the Mike Ilitch School of Business Board of Visitors, which is comprised of alumni, business leaders and community members who support the school, its mission and its vision for the future.
