POSITION SUMMARY

Perform customer service related activities in the field including, but not limited to inspections, line locates, dunning, and repair.

  • Read and understand development maps.
  • Read and understand simple engineering and GIS maps.
  • Read and understand construction drawings and schematics.
  • Perform sewer line locates.
  • Perform force main and manhole inspections for new construction and existing developments.
  • Perform premise sewer tap and water lock out valve inspections.
  • Perform dunning related activities.
  • Troubleshoot and service residential grinder station issues.
  • Pull grinder station pump for repair or replacement.
  • Assist service department on as-needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education : High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience : Either (a) graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in sewer construction, maintenance or operation; or (b) one year of post high school course work in construction or mechanical technology supplemented by one year of experience as noted in (a); or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.

License Level: Water/Wastewater Certification not required.

Computer Skills: Basic Skills

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Alabama Driver's License

Other Requirements

Work requires application of a variety of procedures and guidelines and the adaptation of standard methods to differing conditions. Supervisor sets objectives and organizes work; employee works independently with limited supervision. Requires common courtesy to answer questions, provide service or give direction in response to routine requests. Job requires irregular hours and being on-call 24 hours a day during rotation schedule. Work requires occasional lifting, moving and/or carrying pumps and other heavy items weighing over 25 pounds; driving trucks and operating a backhoe and forklift; duties also require walking, reaching, lifting, climbing, stooping, and digging. Equipment used includes vehicle, tools and equipment required to locate sewer lines, perform inspections, and repair residential grinder station issues.
