SUMMARY
The Custodian performs a wide variety of janitorial and custodial duties such as cleaning, refuse collection and recycling for Raven Rock Mountain Complex (RRMC). This position is responsible for adhering to industry standards and for assuring spaces are kept clean and sanitary. This position may require the ability to work a variety of overtime hours, which includes evenings, weekends and overnight hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains a high level of cleanliness in a variety of types of rooms to include offices, guest rooms, restrooms, entranceways, hallways and common areas. Properly utilizes chemicals in accordance with company and state safety regulations and individual Material Data Safety Sheets. Appropriately uses Personal Protective Equipment to include safety glasses, gloves, masks, etc.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors. Strips / polishes floors, and shampoos carpets. Cleans and stocks restrooms. Dusts furniture, walls, machines, pictures, etc. Cleans windows, mirrors and glass partitions. Collects dirty linens, and replenishes areas with clean linens.
Uses a variety of janitorial machines such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, carpet machines, etc.
Maintains a clean and orderly appearance of the facility's outside areas by emptying trash and cigarette receptacles. Clears trash and debris buildup around buildings.
Supports the site recycling program by properly emptying all inside and outside trash / recycling receptacles. Collects refuse and recycling from multiple common use areas, as well as individual deskside containers. Safely uses trash compactor to minimize refuse buildup.
Serves as an escort for services including (but not limited to) trash removal, recycling and sewage trucks.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of six (6) months relevant janitorial / custodial experience, or equivalent combination of education / training / experience.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Skilled in commercial cleaning methods and the use of standard janitorial equipment and cleaning supplies
Detail-oriented with ability to produce quality work within specified timelines
Ability to follow directions and to implement / follow all safety and emergency procedures
Ability to be courteous and service-oriented in a work-related environment
Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a diverse group of coworkers and customers

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Valid state driver's license required if work involves operation of moving vehicles

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Frequently required to bend, sit, move about, twist at the waist, hear and speak. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Required to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift. Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Uses vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers and waxing equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Required to use safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. May be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses.
