Adult Protective Services Workforce Innovations (APSWI) is a workforce development program that provides innovative workforce development to Adult Protective Services (APS) professionals. APSWI mission is to provide exceptional learning and development experiences for the transformation of individuals, organizations, and communities to ensure that older adults and adults with disabilities who are vulnerable and experience abuse receive high quality, effective interventions, and services.


Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the APSWI Curriculum Development Supervisor the Curriculum Development Specialist will develop and oversee the development of curricula that meets the needs of Adult Protective Services (APS) stakeholders. This position also works closely with the county, state and national stakeholders and the APSWI Curriculum Development Supervisor to develop curricula in various modalities (i.e., instructor-led, eLearnings, coaching products), much of which is used as the national standard for APS training. This position will also work closely with APS subject-matter experts on the development of curricula and training tools and enhancements. This position can work remotely from a home office or in-person at the San Diego office. Occasional travel to Sacramento and the Southern California region is required.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT (50%)

  • Identify curriculum development needs
  • Oversee the development and/or revision of APS curriculum development projects
  • Develop, revise and review curriculum to meet regional, statewide and/or nationwide needs as appropriate
  • Maintain current training materials, making modifications as indicated by Curriculum Advisory Committee(s), APSWI Curriculum Development Supervisor and stakeholders
  • Participate in Curriculum Advisor Committee Meetings as appropriate to facilitate and inform curriculum development projects
  • Recruit and develop scopes of work with subject matter experts/consultants, curricula developers and trainers
  • Evaluate subject matter expert, provide feedback as appropriate, identify development opportunities
  • Pilot and implement curriculum in a variety of modalities
  • Review and provide feedback on curriculum and training delivery
  • Collaborate with Academy evaluation team to develop and implement appropriate evaluation plan
  • Actively participate in and collaborate on other APS curriculum development effort
  • Participate in curriculum evaluation and research


  • PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION, COORDINATION, AND EVALUATION (25%)
  • Oversee, coordinate and implement the continued development of APSWI curriculum development and other projects to ensure compliance with contract/scope of work
  • Monitor progress toward project goals, deliverables, priorities and major work schedules
  • Develop subcontracts with subject matter experts and consultants
  • Develop and oversee needs assessment and strategic planning activities
  • Evaluate and ensure quality of trainers/subject matter experts (per Academy standards) provide feedback as appropriate, identify development opportunities, etc.
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive, collaborative working relationships with county, regional, state and national stakeholders
  • Demonstrate political acumen
  • Monitor budget and determine expenditures
  • Manage stakeholder communications
  • Workgroup/meeting facilitation and participation
  • Identify and recruit experts/consultants and direct contracting as needed
  • Market workshops and other deliverables
  • Participate in APSWI strategic planning and program operation meetings
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders at the local, statewide and national levels
  • Report writing


  • TRAINING AND MEETING FACILITATION (10%)
  • Create, convene and facilitate meetings with stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration
  • Provide training, training evaluation, meeting facilitation and presentations to various stakeholders
  • Deliver training as appropriate


  • ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES PRACTICE IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVES (10%)
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging adult protective services initiatives and issues at the county, regional, state and national levels
  • Anticipate the impact to the adult protective services workforce and plan for new initiatives and regulations
  • Serve as a liaison with key stakeholders to develop strong partnerships, identify workforce development needs and to identify subject matter experts.
  • Maintain active involvement with National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA)
  • Provide technical assistance to APS programs nationwide


  • OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%)
  • Participate in Academy committees or workgroups and in Academy-wide meetings, trainings and special events
  • Perform other duties as assigned which are in the best interests of the Academy for Professional Excellence.

  • Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in appropriate field related to the program/project
      -OR-
    • Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

    • Three (3) years of previous experience related to the program/project.
    • One (1) year of experience leading or coordinating a program within the industry and/or supervising employees.

      (A master's degree may be substituted for years of experience, up to two years)
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in Social Work or a related field
    • Fluency in using standard office packages for report preparation, curriculum development, presentation designs, and other work products as needed
    • Experience working in a public adult protective services program
    • Experience working in health services, human services or social services for a public agency (example: state or county health and/or human services agency)
    • Experience leading collaboratives with local, regional, state and national level APS and/or aging program stakeholders
    • Experience planning and coordinating projects and deliverables
    • Progressively responsible experience in managing projects
    • Two (2) years of experience training and developing curriculum
