PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

To provide department strategic and tactical leadership of current production engineering. Includes production line support, product lifecycle management, and Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA/VE) leadership.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Oversees all aspects of engineering activities in areas related to products currently in production including manufacturing/assembly support, engineering change management, and compliance to regulatory agencies. Ensures best in class solutions that meet competitive market requirements.
  2. Create and maintain robust VA/VE processes and demonstrate governance such that processes are followed.
  3. Support the NPD (New Product Development) Department by managing and maintaining an organized approach to provide VA/VE feedback to the NPD team.
  4. Establishes, monitors, and controls resources/expenditures (onsite and offshore), through preparing budgets and maintaining adequate staffing.
  5. Create teams to ideate and implement alternatives for substitution of materials and methods. Identify savings and implement accordingly.
  6. Supports LEAN manufacturing initiatives throughout the new product design process.
  7. Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies and methodologies that may improve engineering operations and makes recommendations accordingly.
  8. Develops strong collaborative cross functional teams with key stakeholders in other departments including, but not limited to Manufacturing Operations, Product Support, Merchandising, Advertising, and Retail.
  9. Review quality, delivery, and cost reports at Company offshore manufacturing sites to ensure cost reduction programs are efficient and deliver savings per annual strategic goals.
  10. Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others to ensure a collaborative work effort and team approach.
  11. Keeps supervisor informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others, as appropriate to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited school. Advanced degree desired.
  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering, preferably mechanical engineering.
  • At least 4 years of supervisory (or management) experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and multiple projects at once.
  • Business management and evaluation skills, including but not limited to budgeting, project management, and resource allocation.
  • Understanding of foundational LEAN principles and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of company personnel, customers, suppliers, and others.
  • Proactively pursues and completes complex projects with minimal instructions, under budget restrictions and within time requirements.
  • Ability to understand, influence and positively relate to employees at all levels.
  • Excellent consulting and listening skills.
  • Handles confidential information with the utmost judgment and discretion.
  • Proficient in personal computer and software applications including 3D computer aided design (CAD) software and Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) software.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of time for 5 day durations.
