Organizational Summary:

The Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) provides infrastructure, education, and resources to facilitate translational research at Duke University focusing on integrating resources and programmatic research areas across campus. CTSI is housed in the Duke School of Medicine (SOM) and has dual reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Chancellor for Health Affairs. It is the institutional home for the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The CTSI brings together the stakeholders from all parts of the University and Health System and facilitates their work toward reaching the Chancellor's strategic goals in a given area. The CTSI is composed of a number of "cores" that focus on key strategic areas related to Duke Health. Cores with strong commonalities are housed within pillars. The cores and pillars form a network that collaborates toward the overall vision of the CTSI: Accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into health benefits for patients and communities. One of the cores is the Community Engaged Research Initiative, part of the Equity and Learning Health Communities pillar.

Occupational Summary

Coordinate and participate in the planning, management, and implementation of systems to assist senior personnel (e.g., project planners) and faculty in project-related activities. He/she will report to the assigned project planner staff.

Work Performed

  • Plan, implement and coordinate systems related to specific projects.
  • Maintain liaison with project personnel and other internal and external interested parties to establish a communication system to coordinate the various aspects of the project; respond to inquiries about the project according to established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit reimbursement requests in accordance with unit policies, maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and applications in compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures; prepare administrative reports for submission to sponsoring agency.
  • Order and maintain sufficient inventory of office supplies and equipment.
  • Schedule, arrange, provide logistical support for, facilitate and participate in meetings, trainings, community events, and other convenings.
  • Maintain records.
  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions as requested.
  • Recommend changes and modification to systems as required to ensure timeliness, accuracy and efficiency.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience:

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.

Must have a general knowledge of research methods, procedures and activities normally acquired through 1 year of social science research experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills:

Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance.

Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.

Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
