Description:
Under limited supervision, the CRNA performs clinical duties under the direction and supervision of the department medical director, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other attending physicians. CRNA's will maintain professional credentials, clinical knowledge and skills, and the physical status capable of delivering safe and effective anesthesia care to all patients treated. The quality of anesthesia will be no less than that considered to be the standard of care by the ASA and AANA.
• Ensures effective preoperative and postoperative evaluation of patients treated, including acute pain management, ordering and interpreting laboratory, pulmonary, vascular and cardiac studies.
• Is responsible for providing general and regional anesthesia utilizing all anesthesia agents and adjunctive drugs available. Serves as experts in intraoperative patient assessment, including fluid, electrolyte balance and blood product status. Is responsible for administering fluids, electrolytes, blood and blood products.
• Monitors all patients in the Operating Room with all state of the art noninvasive and invasive monitors, anesthesia machines, gas delivery systems, patient/fluid warming devices and IV/Epidural drug administration pumps.
• Establishes and maintains an airway and ventilation utilizing mask, LMA and nasal/oral endotracheal intubation.
• Maintains ongoing competent skills/performance level and documentation of qualifications to meet unit(s) specific standards.
• Provides concurrent, accurate, and legible documentation on the medical record consistent with hospital policies.
• Assesses and monitors functioning of all equipment.
• Adheres to appropriate surgical dress code and aseptic technique.
• Provides continuing education to various departments as requested with particular emphasis to educational endeavors involving new procedures. Pursues a continuing education program of formal and informal education in the field of clinical relevance.
• Participates and promotes the team concept approach in the provision of care.
• Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.
• Actively participates in intradepartmental meetings, committees and in services.
• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Mercy and Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Mercy and Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
• Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees, and Mercy business.
• Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Job Requirements:
• Requires national certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Requires Registered Nurse and (ARNP)
• Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist License maintaining current license to work in the state of Iowa.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) is required
• Is knowledgeable of a variety of different types of equipment and functions in the realm of clinical acuity to diagnostic performance of various laboratory tests. Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
• Maintains a high level of professionalism, which positively promotes the image of Mercy Medical Center.
• Actively participates and represents Mercy Medical Center in professional and community organizations.
• Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.
