Position Summary

The Controls Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, integration, and administration of controls systems. This individual will support the plant floor through projects and process improvement activities by providing control systems support and applying this knowledge. Building and implementing new equipment and troubleshooting of existing production controls equipment are major responsibilities. This person will work independently and with others to design, program, troubleshoot, and assist with startup of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic power and control systems for specialized automation machines and existing manufacturing equipment. The Controls Engineer is required to program and troubleshoot production control hardware & software, including but not limited to PLCs, HMls, servo drives, and vision inspection systems. This position may require occasional after-hours contributions to support the needs of manufacturing.

Principal Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot manufacturing controls systems real time with limited production downtime.
• Implement controls systems and solutions with minimal oversight.
• Design, wire, and program production equipment
• Work with other Controls Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Maintenance Technicians.
• Document systems, software, and electrical schematics
• Support manufacturing by performing IQs and OQs of equipment.
• Identify and implement improvement and cost saving measures for existing products, processes, and equipment.
• Ownership and execution of controls-related capital projects (PEAs).
• Interact with and develop relationships with critical systems vendors

Education / Experience Requirements

• One of the following education and experience combinations are required:
o Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar with 3+ years of direct controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
o Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or similar with 5+ years of direct controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
o High school graduate/GED with 9+ years of direct controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of controls systems hardware and programming, such as PLCs and HMIs, is required.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting controls systems using ladder logic.
• Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO, FDA, etc.) is a plus.

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

• Mechanical and electrical aptitude, especially related to troubleshooting and control panel builds.
• Ability to develop machine design specifications based on internal and external customer requirements and needs.
• Self-starter with the drive to learn new industrial controls software.
• Understanding of control algorithms, such as PID tuning.
• Experience in AutoCAD or a similar program is a plus.
• Knowledge of process instrumentation implementation, such as temperature and pressure indicators/transmitters.
• Experience with InfinityQS highly desired.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and navigation around a Windows-based PC
