CO Clinical Nurse
The nationally recognized Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is expanding its clinical staff in the Diabetes Center located at in the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center. We are seeking a Clinical Nurse who will work with a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, trainees, medical office coordinators, medical assistants, and front office staff to provide care to patients with Type I and Type 2 Diabetes.

This position requires the ability to communicate with patients and their referring physicians to coordinate multi-specialty care. Furthermore, the Clinical Nurse will provide clinical support for other physicians, coordinate clinical programs in the Division, and serve as a liaison for the Division with departmental and institutional leadership.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Diabetes Center Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serves as clinical support to all providers who practice in the JHOC Diabetes Center
  • Provides patient education in clinic
  • Provides support to patients in the clinic and by phone and Epic


Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for making decisions regarding patient care
  • Serves as a patient advocate
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability with patients, family members, other providers and support personnel regarding patient care and or clinic operations
  • Exercises independent, professional judgement and decision-making on a consistent basis
  • Adapts to changes in technology and software to ensure efficient office practice
  • Assists with Epic InBasket management (results, advice requests, prescription refills)
  • Triages clinical or problem patient calls at the request of physicians, nurse practitioners, or medical office coordinator
  • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners in contacting patients with test results, as directed
  • Pends orders for prescriptions to be signed by physicians
  • Contacts patients to get clarification on medication dosing or clinical problem and discuss recommendations with physicians
  • Assists with prior authorization requests
  • Attends outpatient clinics to assist with prescription refills, laboratory testing, patient education, and coordination of care


Research:
  • There may be opportunities to recruit patients for clinical research studies in the diabetes field and provide educational support to research subjects


Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited university
  • Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Maryland
  • BLS Certified

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field is preferred
  • ACLS Certified

  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs
  • Ability to multi-task to meet in-stride needs of patients and providers
  • Pro-active approach to problem solving with the ability to identify obstacles and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Ability to manage time and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical record preferred


Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard
  • Communication skills using the spoken word
  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters
  • Ability to move about workspace


Classified Title: Clinical Nurse
Role/Level/Range: ACRP/03/ME
Starting Salary Range: $61,550 - $84,700 annually (commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: M-F, 8:00am - 4:30pm

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
