JOB SUMMARY:

CNC Machinist I - Operator is an entry level position to perform lathe and mill tasks, learn all aspects of CNC operations, learn the trade and, as a part of the Production Team, fill in as needed in other areas in support of manufacturing. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position.

Operates CNC turning / milling machining centers within a cell with multiple machines to manufacture parts to exacting blueprint dimensions and ensure 100% part quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain safe operations by identifying safety risks and adhering to safety procedures, requirements, and regulations.
  • Operates equipment to produce high quality parts within prescribed routed time to meet production demands.
  • Changes inserts and tools, makes necessary offsets to continue to make parts per blueprint and process specifications.
  • Assists with basic setup tasks.
  • Reads and understands drawings to effectively manufacture parts to close tolerances. When necessary, obtains help to interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts and its application relative to part manufacture and inspection.
  • Maintains equipment via established preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Follows all prescribed quality procedures and inspection plans.
  • Performs 1st piece inspections and monitors own work to meet process requirements including fully documenting inspections reports developed by the Quality department.
  • Verifies that the inspection equipment being utilized is in calibration and performs a simple daily check against a known master to ensure the accuracy of the gage to be used.
  • Maintaining the work area safe, clean, and organized, assisting 5S and/or general good housekeeping practices.
  • Follows supervisor's direction to troubleshoot problem processes, interfacing with Manufacturing Engineers if necessary.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives, and R.O.P.E. (Removing Obstacles and Promoting Engagement).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year CNC Milling/Turning experience in a job shop environment preferred.
  • Basic tool and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and have training or education in GD&T.
  • Ability to utilize and interpret precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be familiar with Manual and CNC machines, G-Codes, M-Codes, lathes, and/or mills.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
