HMEI seeks a highly motivated and resourceful individual with scientific, engineering or technical background to serve as program manager to provide administrative, communications, and relationship management support for HMEI’s Carbon Mitigation Initiative (CMI). CMI is an independent academic research program sponsored by bp and administered by HMEI. Established in 2000, the mission of CMI is to lead the way to a compelling and sustainable solution to the carbon and climate change problem. This is a part-time, 50%, term position
Responsibilities
The Program Manager partners with faculty co-Principal Investigators (PIs) to coordinate research activities and to manage details including contractual agreements, budgets, research awards, executive visits, reporting and communication functions. They serve as liaison/relationship manager, working with co-PIs and bp executives to address strategic issues pertaining to the program’s overall objectives and communication requirements. The Program Manager will participate in virtual and in-person meetings, planning sessions, executive briefings, and webinars. They will assist PIs with contract renewal, budgeting and in making awards for faculty research. The CMI Program Manager will work cooperatively with HMEI’s Manager, Finance and Administration to track and report on budget/expenditures. The Program Manager will have a leadership role in organizing the CMI Annual Meeting, a multi-day forum for presentations and discussions involving 100+ faculty, researchers, students, bp senior executives, and industry/academic/policy thought leaders. The Program Manager will direct the activities of staff assisting with logistical details of executive visits and event planning. They will coordinate the selection of the CMI Best Paper award for postdoctoral research associates and doctoral students. The Program Manager will manage channels of communication. They will oversee the timely production of CMI publications including the CMI Annual Report. They will manage the content and visuals of the CMI website as a resource for internal and external audiences with news and information about the project and as an archive of research outcomes and publications. The CMI Program Manager will be responsible for drafting/reviewing/editing reports, memorandums, exhibits, press releases, power point presentations, and executive briefing documents.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, research or science communications. 4-6 years of relevant work experience. Demonstrates maturity, confidence, and a diplomatic and professional demeanor. Customer focused. Ability to take initiative. Superior oral and written skills with the ability to digest/synthesize/translate technical material for presentation to a mixed audience. Proven skills in project management. Resourceful and creative in approaching assignments. Organized with ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to work well with others including faculty, senior administrators, subordinates, and corporate executives. Supervisory experience and experience staging and managing events.Ability to travel on occasion. Competency with Microsoft Desktop applications and data management software. Preferred Qualifications:Ph.D. preferred.
