The Husson University School of Pharmacy is seeking a chair for the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health and Pharmacy, the chair will be a ranked faculty member at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. This position is a full-time (11-month) position with course release to be negotiated by Dean and Provost for administrative duties. The expectations of Ranked Faculty members are described in the Husson University Faculty Handbook. The Handbook reflects the mission of the University which has as its core objective, inspiring and preparing students for professional careers in the context of an education informed by the sciences and humanities. There are four primary obligations for ranked faculty as outlined in the Handbook; teaching, scholarship, advising, and service. Ranked faculty members engage in shared governance through the Faculty Forum. Ranked Faculty have an initial probationary period no longer than four years before being required to provide a dossier to a review committee of peers in order to receive a multiple-year contract. Husson University is a private institution of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students located in Bangor, Maine. Bangor has been ranked as one of the top 50 small cities in the U.S. as it offers a safe, affordable community with excellent education, healthcare, easy access to major urban centers, and a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities. Year-round activities can be enjoyed on the numerous lakes, trails, and ski areas. Bangor is within an easy drive to the ocean and the nearby mountains of Acadia National Park.Primary Obligations of Ranked Faculty Members consist of:
• Teaching: Husson University prioritizes teaching excellence. This includes demonstrating appropriate pedagogical and classroom management consistent with the expectations of the discipline. Specific teaching loads are assigned by the Dean. The full-time teaching load per semester will be adjusted for expected administrative responsibilities.
• Scholarship, professional activity, and creative work: At Husson University, scholarship and professional activity sustain and enrich teaching and are aligned with the expectations of the respective disciplines.
• Academic advising: Husson University relies on faculty to advise students with respect to their academic program of study and to help them transition to the profession. Faculty members in the School of Pharmacy advise pre-pharmacy and pharmacy students.
• Service: Faculty members are part of the university community, their respective professions, and the community-at-large, and they have responsibilities to render service beyond the basic requirements of teaching and scholarship. This service is essential to the University's success in fulfilling its mission.

General obligations of Ranked Faculty Members include:
• Develop and improve coursework and syllabi in accordance with university and accreditation standards and expectations.
• Work with the Dean to address accreditation standards including course and program assessment and evaluation for the purposes of strategic planning and curriculum development.
• Provide textbook information to the University bookstore each semester and order classroom/laboratory supplies as needed.
• Review, and modify accordingly, in consultation with the dean, annual pharmacy practice faculty development plans. The dean will review the chair's faculty development plan on an annual basis.
• Undertake program development/improvement.
• Attend events celebrating student milestones (e.g., graduation and hooding ceremonies).
• Work with the respective persons at Husson on the publicity of the program – including the website, publicity pieces, etc.
• Participate in student recruitment events.
• Attend Department, School, and College level meetings.
• Actively participate in Faculty Forum and University committees.
• Serve as a responsible employee for Title IX reporting purposes.
• Work collaboratively with other members of the Faculty, Administration, and Staff for purposes of accomplishing the general expectations enumerated above.
Specific obligations of Chair include:
• Supervise, organize and, evaluate the faculty and staff of the department.
• Serve on the School's Executive Council and the College's Leadership Team.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other administrators to implement methods to foster student learning.
• Coordinate the recruitment and retention of faculty within the department.
• Orient new faculty members to the school and institution.
• Encourage professional growth and development of faculty and staff.
• Make teaching assignments for each faculty member and subject area in the department.
• Supervise instruction and evaluate faculty.
• Maintain quality communication and coordination with students, faculty, staff, and outside professional contacts.
• Work with faculty and the school's leadership team in planning, evaluating, and developing the curriculum to assure compliance with accreditation requirements.
• Work with faculty and administrators in developing long-range, strategic plans and annual action plans.
• Plan and develop equipment needs and related matters for each program area.
• Prepare annual reports and manage departmental budgets.
• Assess current and plan for future space needs for the department.
• Maintain connections with outside entities for the purposes of placement for internships and jobs and for identifying future employment trends and possible sources for donations and collaborations.
• Represent departmental needs and interests at institutional meetings.
• Teach assigned academic courses.
• Participate in various internal and external school/university committees.
• Attend Open House, Orientation, and other events as needed.
• Effectively market the program to attract and retain qualified students and faculty.
• Mentor faculty.
• Assess the viability and plan for a possible expansion of the educational offerings of the department/school.

Qualifications include:
Education:
o The Chair must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or its equivalent from an accredited school or college of pharmacy and have an academic experience that is commensurate with the rank of associate (at least 6-years) or full professor (at least 12-years).
o Completion of post-graduate training or equivalent experience in an area related to the desired subspecialty.

Experience:
o A minimum of 10 years of professional experience and five years of work experience as a faculty member is required. Experience in a school or college of pharmacy is preferred.
o Previous leadership or management experience is preferred.
o Previous or current clinical practice and student pharmacist precepting experience is preferred. Board certification in pharmacotherapy or critical care is preferred to teach topics across the curriculum.
o Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Maine (must hold and achieve a ME pharmacist license within one year).

Knowledge/Abilities:
o Substantial (Associate) or mastery of (Professor) pedagogical skills and dedication to continuous improvement in this area. Appointment at the Professor level requires a substantial scholarly contribution to the discipline or field of expertise through refereed articles; authored textbooks or books; presentations at conferences; or other evidence.
o Comprehensive administrative skills, including communication, supervision, and budget management.
