Theatre: Chair and Associate/Full Professor to chair a growing, interdisciplinary Department of Theatre with a start date of August 2022. The College of Creative Arts welcomes outstanding candidates who will play a central role in promoting theatre and performance to an increasingly diverse university community. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of faculty workload and teaching assignments
  • Faculty/staff hiring, development, and evaluation
  • Supervision of student recruitment and retention
  • Fiscal oversight of annual budget and endowed funds
  • Teach one class a semester in either Theatre or Arts Management
  • Serve as the Artistic Director of Miami University Theatre (which typically produces a 5 show season)

We seek a candidate to sustain and advance a growing program through active student recruitment and faculty development. The Theatre chair reports directly to the Dean of the College. They also serve as part of the divisional leadership team that includes the Dean's staff, chairs of five departments, the Director of the Art Museum and Performing Arts Series, and the Director of Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship.

Required: M.F.A. or Ph.D in either theatre, performance, performing arts, arts management or arts administration or closely related field. Candidates in the rank of Associate or Full Professor may apply. For appointment of rank of Full Professor, applicants must have an established record of teaching, research with high-quality publications and service.

Consideration may be given to candidates with a terminal degree in theatre, performance or performing arts who have experience working within the area of theatre management (broadly defined). Candidates with degrees in arts management or arts administration should have significant experience working in the theatre. Consideration may be given to applicants with demonstrated effectiveness in an administrative capacity and the ability to interact with a wide range of constituents including faculty, students, administration, alumni, and the business community.
