Job Summary:

This Counselor/Case Manager is primarily responsible for providing supportive counseling, individual and group, to men or women with varying levels of impairment, and developing and implementing therapeutic treatment plans in the framework of recovery.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the following, based on modality):

  • Provide individual counseling to all clients regarding substance abuse.
  • Provide group counseling to all clients regarding substance abuse. Groups can include educational, life skills, relapse prevention groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Provide case management and engage in care consultation regarding specific clients with other staff, relatives and appropriate representatives of other agencies, including social service agencies, housing authorities, health care providers and vocational issues.
  • Prepare client evaluations and develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Make appropriate referrals and complete follow-up referrals to insure proper aftercare.
  • Maintain client records and programmatic documentation and insure their confidentiality.
  • Write out weekly progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Enforce policies and procedures of the program.
  • Special projects as identified by Program Director.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.

Decisions Made on Own
  • Enforcement of all program policies and procedures as they pertain of clients.
  • Make all spot decisions relative to a client's health and safety including crisis interventions, referrals, and restrictions.
  • Make 911 emergency calls, if necessary.
  • Makes evaluation decision regarding course of client's treatment and decisions regarding compliance with treatment plan.

Decisions Requiring Approval
  • Any decisions regarding clients bringing in a new medication must be brought to the attention of the Program Director.
  • Any determinations made regarding disciplining or discharging a client from the program.
  • Certain referrals may need approval of the Program Director, if applicable.
  • Responding to any client record requests, along with any other issues pertaining to client confidentiality.
  • Representing the program or the CASPAR agency in a public forum (i.e. advertising programs or services, using social networking to broadcast program/agency news of events, discussing the program/agency at community meetings or with members of the media, etc.).

Education and/or Experience Required
  • Bachelors Degree required or equivalent experience.
  • CADAC/LADAC or equivalent preferred, or actively pursuing certification.
  • Experience in individual and group counseling.
  • Prior knowledge of the field of substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of modality specific issues, such as substance abuse, homelessness, trauma, and other co-occurring disorders.
  • Must be knowledgeable with the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Record (Title 42CFR-Part 2).
