DLBA is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm which provides consulting services for the design and construction management of a variety of boats: motor yachts such as Alamshar and Foners (formerly Fortuna) commissioned by foreign nobility, fiberglass recreational boats like Mastercraft's Aviara series, and aluminum workboats like Kayak Express. We specialize in high-performance marine craft design and engineering yet support all types of vessels and clients from record-setting high-speed race boats to commercial marine tugs and barges like Capt Bud.

We are looking for a CAD Designer II to join our organization

Location: Chesapeake, VA

We are seeking an engaged and talented CAD Designer II for our Chesapeake, VA operations to support the development of steel, aluminum, and composite recreational vessels, commercial ship designs, and U.S. Government platforms from 20' to 250' feet in length.

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing functional 3-D CAD models and 2-D engineering drawings to support all conventional aspects of marine vessel design.

Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed designs, free form surface models and/or drawings based on concept sketches, photographs, or clearly stated functional requirements or appearances.
  • Assisting naval architects and engineers in the design of boats and craft and providing solutions by applying existing design skills, techniques, and company procedures.
  • Adheres to existing CAD standards and procedures in conjunction with other designers to improve product quality and efficiency.
  • Clearly document work solutions and challenges. Collaborate with respective engineers to develop solutions.
  • Complete drawing assignments accurately and on a timely basis utilizing CAD programs.
  • Develop conceptual and artistic renderings of boats and crafts in accordance with acceptable commercial standards.
Position Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, and candidates must be able to obtain a secret level security clearance
  • Education: Post-high-school education in Computer Aided Design.
  • 3-7 Years of experience developing 3-D designs and 2-D drawings to recreational and/or commercial standards
    • Years of relevant design, testing, construction, or operations/maintenance of small craft is required.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical principles and practice.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of 2-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD for drafting.
  • Demonstrated experience with boat design using SSI ShipConstructor software for modeling and drawings.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of 3-D geometry, surface, and solid modelling Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as Rhino.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong time management and organization skills as an independent contributor.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
  • Must have visual and audio abilities to perform all aforementioned job tasks.
