The Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Business Intelligence Analyst 2 to work in the Coral Gables Campus.

The Business Intelligence Analyst 2 is a team mentor, with expertise in the areas of BI Reporting, Data Warehousing, and Data Modeling. The Business Intelligence Analyst 2 coordinates the creation of BI solutions, using data from external databases and various snapshot files. This role collaborates with stakeholders and peer teams to deliver BI solutions via Power BI reports, dashboards, SSRS reports, and/or SQL queries. This role has a primary responsibility for supporting data collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination of information regarding University statistics. The Business Intelligence Analyst 2 responds to data requests from individuals within and outside the University. This position provides information and insight which aid in the tracking and driving of the university's Strategic Roadmap Initiatives and key performance indicators. This is a senior role requiring a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and ability to quickly build rapport with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Designs, develops, and maintains business intelligence reports and dashboards.

  • Collects, analyses, validates, and reports University-related information to internal and external entities on routine and ad-hoc basis.

  • Looks for opportunities to improve current processes or find efficiencies by applying industry best practices for BI development.

  • Develops a strong understanding of user reporting needs and makes recommendations on how reports can be developed using BI tools.

  • Manage data supplied from institutional databases and ensure its accuracy and integrity for reporting purposes.

  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements.

  • Collaborate with various IT teams to support automation of data retrieval including updating/maintaining business rules, input/output requirements and other procedural and technical matters.

  • Participate in cross-functional team projects.

  • Develops and implements application documentation and training materials.

  • Maintains communication with management and users during development or maintenance cycle.

  • Reviews, tests, and evaluates reports, queries, dashboards and analytical tools developed prior to move to production.

  • Develops and/or assists in the creation of project time estimates.

  • Provides post implementation support of user questions and fine tuning of processes.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

  • Keeps up-to-date with latest technology trends.

  • Mentors and transfers knowledge to other members of the reporting team.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

N/A

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in BI related field, of which, at least 3 years of experience with database management systems and data analysis.

  • Experience or education related to data story-telling, dashboards and data visualization.

  • Experience using DAX, SQL, or similar computer languages.

  • Experience with and knowledge of Power BI or other similar business intelligence/data visualization software.

  • Experience with and knowledge of relational databases (specifically SQL Server) and data warehouses.

  • Experience within a Higher Education institution preferred, but not necessary.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information and reports with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strategic thinking skills.

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.

  • Excellent oral and written skills are a must.

  • Experience in using data to effectively inform business decisions.

  • Ability to be flexible, think critically, work analytically in a problem-solving environment.

  • Ability to mentor, learn from and collaborate with colleagues.

  • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: SAS, DAX, SQL, etc.

  • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using Power BI, Tableau, etc.
