Job Description

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman is looking for a qualified, professional individual to join our growing PMO team as a Business Analyst in our IT department located in Nashville, TN. This position is responsible for facilitating the delivery of business requirements in support of various technology-based initiatives. We are looking for an individual with experience in multiple project management/SDLC methodologies who is committed to delivering distinctive service while working with our legal partners and staff to ensure IT's understanding of business needs. The Business analyst will elicit, analyze, specify, validate, and document the business needs of all project stakeholders. This person should be business process oriented and experienced in documenting current/future state business processes and use cases to elicit requirements and provide context around how systems are used today, and the changes desired in conjunction with the implementation of new technology-based solutions. The Business Analyst will also apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help support the development and implementation process to ensure that project deliverables are met according to specifications. The Business Analyst may also be required to support and/or coordinate the testing of project deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads interviews, workshops, and/or other methods to cultivate, elicit and document business stakeholder requirements for assigned projects.
  • Creates process workflows, technical specifications, user stories, and other technical diagrams/charts to provide direction and context to project team members.
  • Assists business stakeholders in identifying business objectives through expert analysis of business functions while gathering information and evaluating input and output requirements.
  • Assists in developing a business case when required
  • Works with business stakeholders and the project team to prioritize requirements.
  • Assists in conducting research on software and hardware products to meet agreed-upon requirements and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Communicates modifications of requirements - verbally or through written documentation - to project managers, sponsors, owners and other stakeholders so issues and solutions are understood.
  • Designs, implements and executes various test plans and scripts as part of testing; assists other departments in designing test plans. This may include, but is not limited to functional testing, regression testing, performance testing, and user acceptance testing.
  • Participates in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools, etc. to help expand and mature capabilities within the PMO.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualified candidates should have Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; 5 to 10 years' experience as a business analyst in an Information Technology environment working in both Waterfall and Agile SDLC methodologies. Candidates should have proven experience working with business & IT stakeholders to cultivate and document business and technical requirements, business process flows, use cases, data models and other best practice project artifacts; exceptional analytical and statistical skills with ability to apply them to systems issues and product solutions; a proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence. In addition, candidates should have a proven ability to engage with business stakeholders to establish credibility, influence, solve problems, build consensus and achieve objectives; proven experience working with external service delivery partners to deliver business technology solutions; be detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical associates; have experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment; be self-motivated, decisive, and flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical problem-solving capabilities. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a functional acumen to support how solutions will address business goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices; have excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills; have excellent customer service skills - tact and diplomacy in dealing with both leadership and staff and be proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project). Preferred skills includes experience in a growing PMO organization; business analysis certification(s); legal industry experience; and experience working with Project Management tools (ServiceNow Project Management preferred).
