Job Info

Zoetis, a global leader in animal health, seeks an enthusiastic colleague to join our Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) bioanalytical and medicated feeds group in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The candidate will work closely with representatives supporting target animal safety, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, environmental, clinical, and regulatory sciences as part of multidisciplinary project teams, and may include both internal study support as well as outsourcing efforts. The candidate will work as part of a larger team to develop, validate, and execute analytical methods for the quantitative evaluation of analytes (i.e., drugs, including biologic products, and their metabolites) in a given biological matrix in support of non-regulated (discovery, fit-for-purpose) and regulated (GLP) studies. In addition, the candidate will develop, validate, and execute analytical procedures, primarily chromatographic methods, used in medicated feed assays. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in bioanalysis, pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, and/or outsourcing of bioanalytical methods.

Responsibilities:

• Independent hands-on method development and validation of LC-MS/MS methods (SRM, MRM) to quantify veterinary therapeutics in complex matrices. Preference will be given to candidates with sufficient experience to provide mentorship and guidance in the laboratory.

• Work with project teams, study directors, and regulatory affairs to support or conduct studies within agreed upon timelines.

• Prepare reports and present results to scientific teams and management.

• Participate/lead continuous improvement and innovation efforts within the VMRD Global Pharmacokinetic Dynamics Metabolism & Safety group.

• Analytical subject matter expert and project team representative for VMRD Global Pharmacokinetic Dynamics Metabolism & Safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. (0 - 2 years of relevant experience), M.S. (with 5+ years of relevant experience), or B.S. (with 10+ years of relevant experience) in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field, with hands-on experience using mass spectrometry techniques to characterize and quantify analytes in complex biological matrices.

• Exhibits enthusiasm for analytical chemistry and has a high degree of attention to detail.

• Ability to work effectively as both an individual contributor and in a collaborative team setting.

• Track record of successfully troubleshooting issues that arise during analytical assay development, qualification, validation, and sample analysis.

• Experience with small molecule extraction techniques for complex matrices. Experience with basic/advanced large molecule extraction techniques for both biological fluid and tissue matrices is highly desired.

• Understanding of quality expectations and regulatory guidance around LC-MS therapeutic and/or biomarker assay development and validation.

• Experience with the proper handling and storage of biological samples and associated critical reagents.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Experience with the operation and maintenance of triple quadrupole mass spectrometers. Specifically, SCIEX (Analyst Software) and Waters (MassLynx) platforms, or equivalent LCMS systems.

• Experience with the operation and maintenance of HPLC/UPLC systems using UV and fluorescence detection. Specifically, Waters Empower software platforms, or equivalent HPLC/UPLC systems.

Desired Skill Sets:

• Experience with laboratory automation for sample extraction workflows. Advanced knowledge of Hamilton Microlab STAR Liquid Handling System and programming (Venus software) is highly desirable.

• Working knowledge of ADME assays, primary and secondary metabolic pathways, in vitro and in vivo metabolite profiling, and CYP induction is beneficial for a role as project representative.

• Experience or working knowledge of developing and validating immunoassays for large molecules, specifically biotherapeutics and biomarkers, is a plus.

• Experience with LIMS and/or PK software, such as Watson and WinNonLin, is a plus.

• Experience working in a regulated laboratory (GLP), including writing SOPs, is a plus.
